Make a pirate faction

I'm thinking that the pirates would also need a more permanent, static station as well, like a secret base hidden inside an asteroid or something.

Almost like an unmarked station in the heart of grey that is attached to a race track that just needs to be activated.

My understanding of Inc's approach here is that it would be more like a station that moves than an actual cap-ship. Even if it was like the Nemesis and could be destroyed (one would assume with harsher defenses and whatnot), the auto-respawn on such a thing has always been quick.

Hell, might be fair to make it destructable anyway with a significant respawn time, and thus give the trader types something to strike against...if you're not staging ship and weapon caches at other places like Corvus, you're not doing piracy smart.

But I think Sedina's racetrack station is a poor location for a stationary pirate base, being as close to UIT space as it is and a pre-existing gameplay fixture to boot. I'd like to see it in a giant, hollow Xith roid somewhere in waaaaaaaaaaaaay out in a fogged sector on the far side of Bractus...Odia is too crowded. Like the Cappie Station, getting waypoint for it would be a difficult task in and of itself.

I like your idea better if that is possible. Though ridiculous "way out" travel like the huge capship station is too much. The inside of the roid part is great though.

The station is hidden way out, but hidden in another asteroid near the spawn point is an accelerator gate built into a hollow asteroid which players can enter to be shot at high velocity to a point just outside the asteroid station marked by space markers so people can camp there should they choose.

But there should be multiple accelerator gates and all but the right one fling you into an asteroid for certain death.

Heh, we're supposed to be aiming for the simplest minimum here. The more things we don't have, like magnetic accelerators, the less likely this feature will see the light of day.

A single no-nfz station, with no faction standing requirements for buying "advanced" weapons and ships like the warthog mk II would be amazing. If it was in the s10 station model, it would be mind blowing.

Don't be a fun killer incarnate, just go make the station and leave us here to dream!

Critical path items:
1. Faction access exclusivity which forces serious impact to major-nation factions and visual indicator that player has become aligned to this faction.
2. Station to dock at, home at, and buy/sell stuff with dynamic style n2 economy.
3. Mission trees to gain access to station and faction so players can become aligned without dev intervention.
4. Station to sell Corvus items, high level weapons, and training weapons.

Next step items:
1. Argue about which weapons and ships should be sold and how dynamic economy should be tweaked.
2. Pester Inc about jump gates so ray can determine how much work they would be.
3. Generate in-game NPC pirate named "Gorthok, Destroyer of Worlds"

"Faction access exclusivity" is so fundamentally ridiculous of an idea for this pirate station that I'm beginning to think that people pushing for it aren't just in the "not currently playing the game" camp, but are in fact part of the "have never played the game" camp.

Genka, I agree. Who are they to determine 'what' a pirate is? Personally, the best pirates might be POS with their nation. Pirate is a roleplay, NOT a nation. Consider if Madoff were UIT... he would have been among VO's most famous pirates.

These pirates are just sad there aren't more guild toys. They should just wait until guilds can build stations.

Personally, the best pirates might be POS with their nation.

There is another term for that: privateer. Because you're probably slightly too intellectually challenged to look it up, I'll make it easy for you.

By nature, piracy is unaligned with any nation or country. It is self serving. So, incarnate's thoughts aren't so ridiculous as you make them out to be, noob.

at a minimum the station needs to provide something pirate-types have an interest in safegaurding/hoarding, otherwise it will be a novelty that wears off quickly (resulting in us screaming MOAR even more). Whether its a mission, an economy, or a purchasable item.

Who are they to determine 'what' a Serco is? Personally, the best Serco might be POS with the Itani nation. Serco is a roleplay, NOT a nation.

Slight change, but just as stupid as your formulation, biretak. If you want to RP a nation-aligned privateer, that's cool...but doing so doesn't make you hostis humani generis. Moreover, nobody is suggesting "Pirate" become a nation; merely that if you're on speaking terms with any nation, you're not a piratical sort.

In general, let's avoid call people intellectually challenged or other personal criticisms. Post rebuttals to the ideas on their own merits, don't personally go after the people posting them.
Dec 24, 2015 Dr. Lecter link
In my post, "stupid" modifies biretak's expression of an idea, not biretak himself. I am entirely agnostic on the level of challenged biretak's intellect may or may not be.

tl;dr "Your idea is stupid" != "You are stupid"...even in this kinder, gentler age.
