Auto-fire: Designate Target (mobile)

Jan 27, 2016 Phaserlight link
While auto-fire does much to close the gap between mobile and PC players, in PvP it still feels as though it's lacking functionality. It is currently to your advantage to let an opponent hit you once so that auto-fire kicks in.

I propose the function to 'designate a target' be added to auto-fire capability. When pressed, this function would cause auto-fire to activate versus that target. As a bonus have it un-designate a target that auto-fire is currently active against, like a toggle.

The strategy of getting hit to allow auto-fire to activate has been noted by other players, too:

The ability to select a target for auto-fire to activate/deactivate against seems like a good solution to me. I understand that this is something that affects only mobile players, but trying to get hit once just so that auto-fire will activate feels strange.

Add more buttons to an already cluttered mobile device? A better way would be to fix autofire to fire at any targeted targets, as long as the player is not inside a no fire zone.

Sure, a few new guys might accidentally shoot the wrong person, but imho that is better than not shooting something when you actually want to.

From what Ray told me, this can be done via plugin, but +1 anyway. The default game client needs a better friend/foe system.

Note I am not asking for additional buttons, just functionality; I'd like to be able to map the function to a button on my Bluetooth controller. We could also let DroidButtons sort out the form for those without a controller.

If it turns out to be really popular (which I imagine it would be), another option would be to have it nested as a pop-up after long-pressing "mission" (so you could have 'toggle flight assist' and 'designate' side by side).
