Mines - make them not trigger in the NFZ

Feb 06, 2016 yodaofborg link
Yes. A lot of people will be against this idea, because they like to use lmines to farm lawguns in Odia J-9, but that's actually an exploit and should not be as easy as it is. Well, anyway, my suggestion is not actually about lawguns; but more about sense.

Mines should not detonate or trigger while in the No Fire Zones. If you want to farm lawguns and this is your only reason for not wanting this change, please get a better reason.

-1 weapons are weapons. If mines are deactivated in NFZs, so should be all weapons -- which of course is ridiculous.

Mines are not like all weapons though, they persist in sectors long after you have left the sector (or even after you have logged), they discharge their own energy when a target is in prox (regardless of your actual target), they do not attack group members. They have their own targeting systems, hence they should follow the No Fire Zones.

[edit]

By your figuring, they should attack group members, they should disappear when you have left the sector (missiles and rockets do)...

Try again.

It would seem to me that it would be better to stop Corvus station guards from dropping lenbs rather than making all mines stop working in NFZs everywhere -- since your problem is specifically with Corvus stations. This, of course, is only if the devs agree that farming LENBs is exploitive. I personally don't think it is.

No, my problem actually isn't with lenb farming, or Odia stations. I really do not care about lawguns, I do not use them or mind them being used against me. I have no problem with people farming laws either, it was just a thought that came to me when I was poppin some guys mines who was farming them.

They took away the PCB drops from Aerna Seekers because they didn't want them to be so easy to come by, I guess they just do not realise how easy lawguns are to get either? I dunno, that's just a guess.

Since the recent mine changes, this idea came to me in a bubble, I've been meaning to post it for some time. If mines are going to be their own "entities", they should follow some basic rules. Also when I'm chasing a moth or any trade ship, sometimes the targets actually drop mines in the NFZ trying to throw me off, not realising they are going to get a temp KOS for their trouble, and making my kill faction loss free. This covers their hides too.

-1. If I'm in my moth racing some pirate to a corvus dock I'd like to be able to use conq mines or other mines to stop him from killing me.

So if I, as an Itani-admired Itani pilot go and drop an L-mine in a serco NFZ, my mine should respect their NFZ rules and not be "armed"? Yet all my rockets and missiles and avalons will continue to explode things as normal? And your argument is that mines, merely by virtue of being more persistent and posessing of friend-or-foe technology, should have an auto-safety-on mechanism when dropped inside NFZs?

?

(also +1 to boda's comment...)

Eh, it was just an idea. I guess I'll just keep on getting them faction-loss free kills :D

Or since this is such a big deal to you, you could just not do it.

Guards already clear mines at a fantastic rate. Don't make the game more boring.
