persistent ship debris

For immersion when NPCs capships explode, leave debris floating in space, just like ships parts and corpses fer several days or weeks.

This would add a atmosphere of macabre in deneb, or gray.

Unfortunately, Incarnate would NOT like to have his little sweet server instances persist that long.

I would not presume to speak for Incarnate, but peristent objects can put an unnecessary burden on the servers. Perhaps a super low poly wreck could work.

Strictly speaking, debris could be written to the database, much like mines and other content that's now persistent. But it would eventually become a real burden for both other players (to render) and the server, if it achieved a high density (lots of debris).

But, much as in 2009, it's the aesthetics of debris that are part of the problem. Our current debris was designed to be seen briefly and then fade out. It doesn't have much detail, and looks ugly when inspected.

Higher-detail debris is something I've been considering though, for capship destruction. Certain film scenes (there's one in the reboot of Star Trek) with the remains of an entire destroyed fleet in orbit, look pretty compelling and would be neat to fly through.

But, we would have to develop those assets, and also find the right way to manage / limit their quantities in any given sector.

+1 to this idea.
The ice fields in Deneb should be littered with wreckage from the war rather than crazy high amounts of large crappy asteroids.

If it can be done without impacting server load too much, or overwhelming those with slower devices, I say do it.

Of course I understand this probably is not going to happen anytime soon, but it gets my +1 (for what that is worth)

It doesn't look that bad. And besides, better to have ugly debris rather than no debris.
