Faction Standing Penalty to only Apply from Pilot of Targeted Ship

Have faction standing penalties only apply from the pilot of ship you target and destroy. If you target a neutral or respected ship, there should be no loss of standing for the admired person in the turret. The admired person took the risk of flying in the turret with the pilot and his/her standings.

There is no way to see the standing of the person in the turret and the player targeting the enemy shouldn't be penalized for that.

Unless there is a way to view the standing of each occupant of a turreted ship, I think it's an exploit to put an Admired bot there just to tank standing.

Yes, but only if there is no way to view the standing of the turret occupant (s).

If the pilot of said ship shoots you first, your standing won't drop if you boom the ship and the turrent user goes down with the ship.

Your faction is only affected if you shoot and kill an innocent pilot and his/her passengers. Don't do that and you won't have any problems.

Thank you for your patience and the information.

Like stated above, if the ship in question attacks you first, the normal defence mechanism kicks in and you will not get a faction drop from killing the said ship. The fact is only trade ships (and Tridents, which isn't really more than a glorified trade tub) have turrets anyway. Why are you flying around shooting trade ships? Are you a pirate now kenny?

Yes, I have shot Behemoths and Atlases in guarded space, they had passengers and yes I have lost hella faction for doing so. It was my decision to attack the said ships, and in return I was willing to lose the faction if I scored the kill. If you do not want to lose faction for killing said ships, do not do it in guarded space.

Simple.

I think the fix should be (if any) is to display the faction standing of manned turrets if you target them. I'm not 100% sure, but I think plugins such as enterleave do in fact already display this information (I could be wrong about this, but I seem to recall it doing so), but of course, not everyone uses these plugins, so you should be able to get the faction standing of a passenger without needing a plugin.

I frequently shoot at every pilot that flies by, but in guarded space I do pay attanetion to to their standings and if I don't feel like grinding up the faction standing on that day, I'll let an Admired pilot go or chase him until we are where he is not safe.
I've heard of the Admired-playerbot-in-turret trick more than once now and it just seems like a cheap trick to make less enemies shoot you down.
If you're not gonna remove it completely, atleast give us the chance to see the standings of the guy in the turret.

P.S: Yarr, Kenny! The invite to VOID is still waiting for you. You know you wanna shoot at every ship you'd like! We make it possible!

-1 If you can't defend your nation space without taking faction hits from accidentally killing strike force then you shouldn't get a break if you kill 2 players that you have willingly targeted in monitored space. Don't want the faction hit then don't shoot ships with turrets.

The way I look at it, as currently implemented, the faction standing of the targeted ship is not displayed properly. A ship with an admired person in the turret is NOT nuetral, it is admired, or the turreted person is just a passenger along for the ride that shouldn't count against you.

I'd be happy if the the displayed standing of the targeted ship would show the highest of the faction standings of the pilot and passengers if somehow showing a combined faction isn't possible. At least then you can make a decision to fire based on more accurate information.

Either way, it's unsportsmanlike to load someone of higher standing into a turret just to tank someones standing and then be proud enough about it afterwards to pm the person.

-1 to ignoring passengers.

+1 to better informing us about passenger standing, somehow.

My vote is to make character pages also be available from the sector list entries rather than only by targeting people and pressing k.

+1 To Rin's point. We should just put the local standing on the sector list for players in-range.

+1 To Savets +1 for Rin. Either way, this way you would have an informed decision.

I was actually just thinking along the same lines.

This suggestion only works if and only if the pilot of said turreted ship has a weapons hold/weapons free toggle on their turrets. As is, gunners can start fights and possibly finish them without the captain's say so.

Personally, it makes no sense that we should know who is aboard a capship, short of witnessing someone docking, so it makes perfect sense that the captain take all responsibility, but not until they have the control to prevent mishaps.
Apr 13, 2016 DeathSpores link
to CD's post; Why not adding a gunner key? If you don't have one you cannot enter a turret. (or permissions set to the user key : dock, dock+repair, dock + gunner etc.)

Well, I think Tridents are a different ballgame anyway, I think the OP is more referring to the smaller turreted ships.

Plus, you CAN already kick a player from the Trident, so the captain DOES already have a form of control if someone starts being an ass-hat.
