Grey national ship

May 10, 2016 VikingRanger link
So assuming one day soon(tm) we get the grey nation it will need a nation specific top tier fighter. This is my suggestion.

Corvus Vulturius Rex

Levels: 6/7/-/-/-
Armor: 10,000
Cargo: 2
Weapons: 2 small
Mass: 3800kg
Length: 12m
Thrust: 250
Turbo thrust: 260
Max Speed: 75m/s
Spin Torque: 7.6nm
Turbo Speed: 220m/s
Turbo Drain: 60/s
Integrated Cargo and Addon scanners

Even if we don't get the Grey nation it would be cool to have this thing for "grey nationals" however that may be defined.

Why would "Grey" - which is the OPPOSITE of a nation - have a "top tier fighter"? We do a lot of things, but fighting heads-up battles for control of territory/to further national interests are not among them.

And why would a lousy chaser have a cargo scanner?

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Grey or Pirate or whatever Shady Fucker alignment [note, this would NOT be Corvus, which Inc has clearly said will stay as it is now: a port for all comers...not unlike 'Bama] needs to get a buffed, triKOS requirement Hound. That's a ship that reflects what "we" tend to do. Stopping Corvus from handing out other versions of the Hound like candy would dovetail nicely with that being implemented, obviously.

I agree with Lecter. Yes you should look outside now, the 4th horseman is about to arrive.

So say you run a shady semi-criminal empire and you sell some pretty damn good fighter ships, wouldn't you be a bit mistrustful of anyone with national affiliation? I'm not arguing against the hound being more exclusive, I'm proposing a new ship for whatever group or ranking level ends up being associated with being "grey national". Keep your hound ranting to its won thread.

Grey has the greyhound, corvult, and the cor mar. Those are already good ships ror

Yeah, the Corvult is already a top-tier fighter.

The Corvult is on par with the SVG, WTD and IBG. It is outclassed by the Valk and Prom. If you compare the stats I listed you will see that I only buffed the thrust, turbo thrust and armor. As for the Greyhound and the Cormaud they are both compromises, the Cormaud is an upgraded cargo ship and the Greyhound is a stripped down, rebuilt speed machine. That some people are able to beat Valks and Proms in the Corvult is a testament to their fighting skills, not the ship.

you can use a cormaud to kill a valk.
you can use an aggro/taur mkIII to kill an scp, or just a corvut with distance control and flare avoidance.

"The Corvult is on par with the SVG, WTD and IBG. It is outclassed by the Valk and Prom."

Sorry, but you only think that because the Corvult is a less newbie-friendly ship. The primary advantage the Corvult has over the Valk is its thinner profile, which makes it harder to hit. That is a huge benefit, easily enough to make up for the lower armor... if you have enough skill to actually dodge effectively. But if you're not good at dodging you don't gain much from the profile and end up missing out on the Corvult's main strength.

The other big advantage the Corvult has is maneuver speed, which lets you decide the distance you fight at. If you have the faster ship and equal piloting skill, and you decide you want to get in close (perhaps because your weapons perform better up close and theirs perform better at a distance), then you will get in close. If you'd rather back away like a coward, you can back away like a coward faster than they can close with you, forcing them to use turbo and open themselves up to be shot. Either way, you gain about as much advantage as the Valk pilot gets from having that third weapon port. But effective distance control is another thing newbies tend not to grock.

In the hands of a skilled pilot, the Corvult may or may not be better than the Valk or Prom (this depends on individual fighting style), but it is right up there with them.

-1 for a grey nation or any odd tri kos requirements. Of all that seek profit from anyone regardless of their true nature, corvus or grey shouldn't have any requirements. Players may not always be what they seem and corvus knows that and respects their privacy. UIT is the grey nation, not everyone has embraced that yet.

We don't need more vultures. We need the greyhound to be exclusive.
