Grey isn't a nation anyway. :)

I do want to make sure we're defining "KOS" for the purpose of this suggestion as something like -800, rather than the -1000 that the actual KOS label uses. Making it require a full -1000 would be really annoying, because it's very easy to accidentally raise your standing from -1000 to -999 and get relabeled as Hated.

Since "Corvus Greyhound Damo Edition" and "Corvus Vulturius Anniversary Edition".

Sieger is arguing some ships have been promised in some way to remain in-game and available. However, there's nothing preventing the Devs from changing what the stats or anything else about those ships are - they pulled that one on us with the design change of the anni-vult already.

Corvus ships, however, have ALWAYS been more or less generally available and their stats have reflected that. The only one not to follow the 'designed for general consumption' model was the Hound: when proposed, some kind of "Grey" exclusivity was identified as a balance requirement. Because nobody was going to make Corvus a pirate nation, it never happened.

So, Hell is clearly freezing over because for the second time in a week HWW and I are in agreement. +1 to the suggestion with this tweak: that while Corvus itself will remain non-exclusive, the Hound will require *both* Corvus +950 and triNation -980 standing to purchase. The Hound Mk II is added as a 2 S-port variant. Other ships stay as-is. LTS reward Hound will be left available with its pretty mesh, but becomes a Hog Mk II in terms of stats and name.

Some kind of Hound inventory reset would be ideal before the SS Big Changes comes into port, obviously, but that may not be in the cards.

I think making the Corvus Vulturius only available to tri-KOS people is silly.

I think you all will find that it is the popular opinion that "grey" status shouldn't only be for pirates. As an exclusive grey space dweller, that doesn't pirate at all, not having the Corvus Vulturius available to me would piss me off til no end.

Not that MY feelings should be the thing that stops this, but I think you all will find that this is probably a common opinion.

Now...

As far as the hound goes...that thing shoulda been tri-KOS exclusive from the get-go. The fact that its the fallback ship for anyone getting their asses handed to them in combat says something. It only has good usage for running or chasing. Why would one want running away to be so easy in a ship that isn't even a trading ship? For trolling of course...

To add to this...

There are MANY things in the game that rely entirely on what nation you are affiliated with, like missions, standing mechanics, etc...

I think this has been one of the pain points of starting a new nation. So much code would need to be reworked to account for the additional nation. Too much for it to ever be plausible, it seems.

To combat this, I think once you are tri-KOS, ONLY THE COLOR OF YOUR NAME should made grey, with no actual change to your nation. This way none of the other things that I mentioned above ever have to be touched.

It also makes sense from the VO world perspective because there isn't an actual grey nation and these people wouldn't be treated as such. You shouldn't get all kinds of awesome toys for turning your back on your home nation either. Some exclusivity to it is absolutely necessary, but not multiple ships. Changing the requirements of the hound would be fair enough.

This would be strictly a role-play thing and it would satisfy SO many people. Hell, it may even peak the interest of some old players to return to see what the "new grey faction" is all about, as this change would undoubtedly cause some serious ripples in the VO pond.

+lots to making the Hound exclusive to triKOS without altering what Corvus is.

+even more to changing name to Grey text upon triKOS, without doing anything else re: nation/alignment.

-1 this whole idea of grey anything and limiting the hound's access is silly. Pirate is a form of role play. That's it. If you want to role play a pirate and be POS with one of the three nations, nothing should stop you. It would be like requiring UIT 800+ to by moths. It's just silly.

So, if this is implemented, moths should require +800 with one of the 3 nations, or maybe even just UIT.

Just ignore biretak on this whole RP point; we've already explained to him why what you can RP and what faction restrictions go on unusually capable ships (proms, valks, hounds) are two entirely different things.

Talking to him makes as much sense as trying to convince an 'English as a Second Language' Donald Trump he's wrong. Total waste of time.

LET'S MAKE VO GREAT AGAIN!

I have an idea that would certainly help in that regard, JJ...but I doubt you'd like it.

Hoban, like it or not, UIT, The Union of Independent Territories, is the 'grey nation' everyone wants. You just have to join it when you create the character.

Corvus, an independent faction, has no reason to require tri kos with their ships. Corvus is not at war with any of the three nations or any of the UIT sub-factions. It's just an underground black market that's frequented by pirates. At this time, there is no reason for corvus to care what faction standing their clients have with any of the nations or sub-factions.

+1 to the amended OP.

@biritak: You're wrong. Corvus may not have an innate problem with doing business with anybody and everybody, but the major nations do have problems with Corvus. And because they have problems with Corvus, that means Corvus has problems with them.

Look at it this way. I'm walking down the sidewalk minding my own business. I have no problem with Sam. But then Sam notices that I'm stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk, and sometimes I kill poor little defenseless mosquitoes who are just trying to survive. She also notices that I sell people certain types of magazines that she's offended by. So Sam starts getting in my way. She's scared to kill me or even hurt me too bad since I probably have a lot of friends who would come out of nowhere and take up my cause, but that doesn't stop her from shoving me out of her neighborhood, posting a bunch of propaganda and character assassinations in an attempt to ruin my business, and even bullying some of my clients for doing business with me. In some cases, maybe she even steals the magazines they purchased and burns them. I didn't start out with any problem with Sam, but do you think I'm going to just ignore all of that?

Now let's say Sam has a friend named Gary, who has been babysitting her kids while she works on her propaganda, lending her money, and generally helping Sam out. If Gary comes up to me as I make my rounds, do you think I'm going to do business with him? The friend of my enemy is usually my enemy. Even if I know that Gary personally has no beef with me, the fact that he's been supporting Sam as she tries to ruin my life means that I'm not going to be inclined to be friendly. In fact, I may be downright hostile. He thinks he's neutral, but he isn't; he's an enabler. Every hour that Gary babysits Sam's kids or helps with errands and chores is another hour Sam spends working against me. Every dollar he lends her is another dollar being used against me. Every bit of emotional support he gives her is more energy Sam has available to oppose me with. So you know what? Gary can go fuck himself. I'm not selling him my magazines.

I applaud your efforts to eradicate mosquito borne illness, but Gary seems like a standup guy. Not cool Pizzagood, not cool!

rin, nice story, but it had nothing to do with the independent factions. For the time being, Axia and Valent are more at odds with each other than corvus is with any of the three nations, five uit sub-factions, and the four other independent factions.

Nobody could possibly be as stupid as your posts indicate, so I assume you're simply protecting your consequence-free access to the Hound. On the off chance you're really that dense, though: This has nothing to do with what Corvus, in an ideal world, "would" do. This is about the fact that VO is so Dev-time strapped that we literally have nowhere else on the horizon for unaligned pilots and a ship that needs triKOS for balance reasons, so we need a kludge.

Greying out the name in chat/adding triKOS purchase requirements for the Hound is an excellent kludge. It gets almost everything a lot of people want, with minimal consequences besides giving you heartburn over whether Corvus is slightly out of character. Yeah, a roving pirate station would be better, but that's not happening any time soon. This could theoretically happen next week.
