Add a Master Key to Key Rings

Sep 08, 2016 SkinWalker link
This would be above all keys and only a single person, the person who takes the station, would have it. The key hierarchy would be like this:

Master Key -Can revoke any Owner Key or User Key; can give an Owner or User Key
Owner Key -Can revoke any User Key; can give a User Key
User Key -Can access the station

This would have the affect of putting more controls of keys in place in lieu of some sort of auditing to figure out how unauthorized people get keys. But, ideally, some sort of audit trail would be available to a Master Key holder and perhaps Owners. For instance, one of these two key holders should be able to look at the list of keys, click on the person, and see who issued the key and when.

Another key enhancement would be keys that have expirations set by the Master or Owner key holders. Give a user key forever, 24h, 48h, 30 min, etc.

Also why do we have to type the fucking name of each key to delete it? and why does the client gray out the screen to make it impossible to read the key name you are trying to type, or to read the name of the person you are trying to give a key to? And why isn't there an active and inactive sorting of keys? And why can't we just "delete all" keys???

They key system is obviously inadequate and is so restrictive in its design that it is incredibly burdensome to have any sense of organization after 6 years of key accumulation.

6 years.

Did I mention 6 years?

The entire key system needs to be redone from the ground up adding another level of ownership won't help.

A quick fix is to allow userkeys to apply a key on a station without promoting them to ownerkey.

A permanent fix would be to create a variable access level key based on a numerical value (1-100) and on capture would create a "unaligned" private faction rooted to the key with it's own standing and rules of engagement.

Another level of key hierarchy could potentially be an easier fix than waiting for the devs to have time to completely recode how keys are managed.

One person with the ability to remove "owners" will allow groups to restructure their own key rings rather than having to re-create all new ones when needed.

They are owners for a reason - if you don't like the way they do things get a new partner

+1 for making it easier to delete keys

Having only partners and minions is not always sufficient. Sometimes you need lieutenants.

I do dislike that this suggestion does not either let you give out additional master keys or let you create super-owners who can make new owners. It is essentially adding the ability to have lieutenants but removing the ability to have partners. We should be able to have both. Security-minded people who don't want to take the risk can always just choose to not take the risk.

Exactly what Rin said. It isn't so much that you don't like your "partners" but there is a need to distribute keys in the absence of those "partners."

And I'm not against the idea of multiple master keys. I was just trying to keep the idea as simple as possible and then let additional ideas flow from others. Or let it stay simple with the hope that it might be more easily within the ability of devs to adjust or add.
