Weapon experience gains change

Sep 12, 2016 ryanleman link
Hey all,

I thought it would be a good idea to have your license gain for small weapons and large weapons to be based on how much health damage the weapon does rather than whatever weapon you happen to make the kill shot with. It doesn't make sense that you can get an enemy's health down to 1% all with a large weapon but then hit the enemy once with a small weapon and all the exp goes to small weapons. This will also make leveling feel much more natural like it did in the game Oblivion (elder scroll's series).

I feel that I did this in reverse (small weapons to lower health, then my large port to kill) in order to gain that first heavy liscense, but ultimately I agree. Why are stingrays the only heavy port item you begin with?

yeah, it just doesnt make senee. Im going to hit my target a dozen times with a small weapon and hit him once with a large weapon to level

In realistic terms even though ive made 10,000 hits with a small weapon and 100 hits with a large weapon my guys small/large license is 1/5, 1(Im a notice who barely remembers where the fire button is) / 5 (assult ships at 500m? I got this) when it should be like 6/3 (estimate not to scale obviously)

I think this is probably a good idea. I'm not sure how simple it is to implement.. the information may not be available to the area of the game in quite the way that is needed, so there might be some re-architecture required. Anyway, we'll look into it.

I know you get assist weapons XP for hive skirmish kills by NPCs of bots you've damaged. Not sure I've ever seen it give both light and heavy assist XP though, even though I know I've sometimes damaged a bot with both L and H weapons before the NPC killed it...wonder how the game chooses which flavor of assist XP to award?

It chooses based on which weapon did the most recent damage.
