Allow us to adjust our top turbo speed on the fly and have the speed directly affect the turbo drain.

Allow us to adjust our top turbo speed on the fly and have it affect the turbo drain. So if we reduce turbo speed , the turbo drain goes goes down. And vice versa. Max turbo speed would still be capped to the current limits on all ships.

For example, if I am flying my Valk, and I dropped the max turbo speed to 205 m/s, the valk's turbo drain would reduce as well, and I could infini turbo at that speed with a fast charge. I realize this is possible with plugins, but it makes sense to my Itani brain that this functionality would be built in to our VO ships.

Absolutely. Shouldn't need a plug in to do this.

I'd like to see the current turbo as default and then the ability to increase and decrease turbo speed. Increasing turbo speed should require a substantially higher drain on the battery.

Technically, you cannot set your turbo speed even with a plugin. All that plugins are able to do is rapidly toggle turbo on and off to try and maintain a given speed. This has the same effect as tapping turbo manually yourself, except faster and with more precision.

This would mean a massive re-balance of ships and would make running from fights easier for everyone.

Not to mention that turbo was actually changed from the "analog" input style to the "on/off" input style back in the day.

/+Turbo did indeed used to take an argument, but my understanding was that that was removed (in 2003) primarily because you could type `/+Turbo -1` and get infinite energy recharge, not as a conscious balance measure.

I think we agree on the primary reason for removing the argument to the +turbo command, but I imagine removing the analog nature of the command was a deliberate choice.

Sure, most people that played around with the argument stuck with turboing backwards, by using "/+turbo -1000" but it was also possible to limit your energy drain by using something along the lines of "/+turbo 600" while still being able to see where you're going. It seems to me that it would be just as easy to limit that argument to positive values as it would was to replace it with an on/off toggle, if the intention was only to stop the backwards turboers.

(Fun fact, I still do `bind + +turbo -1000` for my turbo-holder-downer button)

BTW: A notable difference between the removed analog option and the suggestion was that the +turbo argument actually controlled the turbo thrust, rather than the max speed, so you would still reach your engine's top speed eventually.

I realize this is possible with plugins

This is PRECISELY why this will never happen. Inc created the API just for this reason, so that we players can implement the little things so the devs don't have to bother with those little silly things.

The plugin works pretty well, so let's shut up and be happy with it. Let the devs fry bigger fish, such as the new capships.

The plugin works for what it does, and plugins work on all platforms.

Joylessjoker has got this spot on ยป we need tge devs to be working on capships, not implementing a plugin
