A more living world.

Hi! This is me first time on the message boards (Well, posting on them anyway), and i have a little suggestion. As ya know, during the game there is very little to do apart from the occasional duel, and the rest of the time you're just bot hunting. This get very tiresome after a while, so i have a little idea:

A living world.
Think about this, the current bots, what do they do? They just fly around aimlessly until someone attacks them, so why not change all that. Dont just make them there for easy killing, make them just passer-by's like us, or maybe make some of them pirates, attacking only in groups and mostly going for larger cargo ships and the like, or maybe make them full convoys, consisting of a few large cargo ships and multiple smaller ships around it. This would be a good way to liven things up a bit.

Another idea of mine is that we could make the areas more.....interesting. For example, why not take a leaf from the game 'Freelancer'. Instead of making each sector an infinite amount apart, make them just about 20 minutes away, with the wormhole's just being there for a quicker way of getting there. Also, if ya do that, why not make them less instantaneous. If, again, you take a leaf out of 'Freelancer's book, you could make it possible to disable the wormhole whilst someone is still inside it, dropping out into realspace, and during this you can make your attack.

One last idea of mine. This is an MMORPG. Why only have action game ships? Everything is designed with blowing crap up in mind, apart from possible the atlas, which is a transport. Why not make far, FAR larger ships, one's that are part of the convoys i mentioned before, and make them absolutely HUGE, were talking station size or larger here, with the swarm of escorts around it, keeping it safe.

Oh, oh! Another one! Why not make different styles to each sector. Since at the moment they seem to be an infinite amount apart, why not have them totally different in some areas from others? We could have badlands, where the pirates are everywhere and you cant see much further than 500m due to electrical interference, and your radar is in just as bad shape.
We could have stations that aren't actually stations, and in fact the large cargo ships i said about before, which can be docked with just like a station.

Ok, here the REAL last one. Make stations armed and have a defence force. I dont mean the easy to kill bots we currently have, but a good set, who can do well in a fight without needing perfect accuracy to do so.

Well, that my 2....5....whatever, cents. You may now tear it apart at will.

Jant: Many of your suggestions have been in the works for quite some time. I don't think there would be a change in the wormhole system, however. Thats linked into the whole concept of the way the universe would exist on more than one server.

Frankly I dont think the "wormholes don't have to be used" idea wont work very well under the current engine. It would require too many objects to be loaded, and too great of distances.

plus, taking things from a medicore game like Freelancer IMO is NOT a good idea

In Elite you could go from system to system without using hyperspace. that was 1983 and it was awesome.
sometimes you were stopped in mid-jump by thargoids. I am still fearing the moment when loading screen cuts out half way and message goes across the screen "YOU HAVE BEEN AMBUSHED BY THARGOID SHIPS". 1 vs 7 bots, ARGH!!!!

The problem with the "living world" idea is that the bots aren't too bright as it is. The bots most likely will be more lifelike when they get good at just attacking things. Sure you could not make wormholes necessary, but why? Why not just use them if they're there? Once the engine is finalized some ships will be huuuge. The sectors do sorta have different styles. I think the last one is in the works.
