Every 48-72 hours have the servers restart automatically, a warning 6 hours before would be common sense.
*** Server is restarting in 6 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 5 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 4 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 3 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 2 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 1 hours ***
*** Server is restarting in 15 minutes ***
*** Server is restarting in 10 minutes ***
*** Server is restarting in 5 minutes ***
*** Server is restarting in 60 seconds ***

+1, a notice would always be good
while automatic restarts would be nice for refreshing the escorts or other missions, how about NOT that often? I think once every two months should be fine. why would you want it that often, Blaqk?
Because this game has code from when the world trade centers still stood.
+1 but once a week whenever server population is smallest
-1 if theres need for a restart, the devs will do it.

If an automagic restart happens, and the devs are not around to monitor it and something sucks, then the whole verse would be dead, not just VOID. It is kind of nice that the escort missions dry up from time to time.

^ agreed. -1.
The restarts would be a set point in time well in advance, they are going to be around.
Game is too complex for autostarts, too much chance for dooooom
but we should all call GS once a week, at the exact same time and blow up their phones as a reminder to restart it cause the convoys and other kourier things become trash after a week

We have a general policy of restarting every two weeks, which is when Kourier seems to be slipping downhill on our graphs. However, Ray has a tendency to forget to do so, if I'm not in the room to remind him when the release is actually happening.
I'll see about making it a weekly routine.
We are not going to create automated restarts, there are way too many possible issues with that. Plus, some restarts have to be carefully scheduled against code-commits and on-going development changes. Restarting at the wrong time would break the game. So, no, it will not be automated.
I hope we'll eventually have some time to dig into the Kourier algorithms and model what the hell is going on. It was written in a way that's incredibly challenging to debug, with huge numbers of nested conditions, and we think there's basically some (relatively) simple math error that causes the degradation. But finding that math-error could take two weeks of digging around, which I don't really have available to spend right now.

I can understand the vulnerability that arises out of automagic, what if there were more /vote commands?
/vote restart
Requires 25 paid players over the time over a 1 hour period to engage it, when a vote is successful it would send a communication to you guys to manually restart it.

Or we could just whine on the forums like now? Or send a support ticket.

Translation: I want the server to restart RIGHT AWAY whenever we players tell you to.
Ahhhh! Brimming with impatience, self entitlement, and youthful naivety, are we?

You're speaking incoherent nonsense now JJ.

Mi5: No, we are not going to do that.
Nor should that be necessary, given a weekly restart.

7 days should be fine, I just got tired of the levi being broken.
Levi has not been broken. People have been killing it regularly.

Oh, it must be normal then for there to be two leviathans in a single sector, or for half the queens to deepspace.
