Forum Vote Mute

Jul 24, 2017 capt.tightpants link
Would it be possible to have a forum vote mute option? Where the community can vote to mute someone from a thread instead of having to wait to have phaserlight deal with it? or maybe add a mute checkbox by their name as a kind of voting system.

+1 this would be great because if we have a vote mute in game then why not forums? we always see post out of control way worse before it gets locked because someone derailed it badly.

+1, Though I fear severe abuse

well then the devs will have logs for that danstr and they get muted for abuse of the voting system just like in game.

At a very minimum, a "Flag this thread for review" option.

+1 all the way... much more better for sure and there is no wait for someone to deal with it

Translation: Would it be possible to have a button on every post that I can click on to let the devs know that I got butthurt from reading this particular post?

Fact of the matter is, Inc is satisfied with the current solution of his two appointed moderators Whistler and Phaserlight occasionally going through the forums and manually dealing with problems as they arise. It's boring and tedious but it works pretty well. Just have faith in them.

actually JJ its more to keep douche canoes from derailing threads to make them about themselves instead of what the thread is actually about. think of it as anti-narcissism button

inc has actually said he stopped reading certain suggestions due to all the horse shit derailing going on. That means possible good suggestions go unread due to dumbshit.

-1 I can just use a proxylist and abuse it

JJ has the perfect gist of this, AND as a suggestion its in the wrong subforum.

In game mutes, mute you here too.

This really is a suggestion. Moved.

-1 for the following reason. It doesn't matter how robust their logs are, the GS is simply not staffed to deal with somebody who is intent on muting somebody using 20 different VPN servers on 20 different accounts with 20 different throwaway e-mail addresses. They could make it a subscriber-only function, but the threshold of subscribers on the forums that would take part in such a mute functionality would likely force the threshold to be set too low to be effective at preventing abuse by a coordinated multi-player mute campaign. We have low-hanging fruit feature requests and bug fixes which go unaddressed because of the lack of developer bandwidth. Adding this functionality and dealing with the abuses it opens up would further tax resources and detract from game-play enhancements.

If you are satisfied with similar functionality without the possibility of multi-account abuse, you could ask for a forum /ignore equivalent instead? Forums I tend to visit in general have a such an option.

-1 to OP. Unlike the in-game chat system, forum usage isn't heavy enough relative to moderator presence for this feature to be needed or useful.

I don't have any objection to a forum ignore, but it does need to insert a placeholder instead of just making ignored posts vanish. Otherwise confusion will happen.
