Ion storm appearing/dissipating while player is in the sector.

Most of us here have experienced being in a sector and a ion storm either spawns or it dissapears. Screen turns black for a split second then everything turns blue or vice versa. Some players might find it interesting while other are not so amused anymore. I tend to be in empty roided sectors when these events happen and it gets boring to see it.

I have a idea for what happens when you are in a sector and either a storm comes or it goes. It will make the the game feel more realistic.

You are in a sector doing your own thing: mining, botting or something else and all of a sudden a messege under your crosshair flashes in bright red in all caps "WARNING, ION STORM INCOMING." The message flashes for a few seconds and its big enough to catch your attention but not too big where it is annoying. You look around and see off in the distance and see a huge blue cloud of ions heading towards you. As it gets closer, the area starts filling up with the ions and the area slowly starts becoming blue. After around 10 seconds the entire sector is in a ion storm. When the ion storm is leaving the screen slowing starts clearing up.

What do you guys think of my idea? I would love to hear opinions.

Not much came to mind when the storm leaves.

Incarnate allready said he wants to make storms a more permanent residing thing.

Anyways, sounds interesting.

Takes a tad much coding for something quite rare.

you dont know much on coding do you clank? also they arnt rare if you would count 256 sectors per system that has around more than half roids in 256 sectors per system, so no not quite rare, if you look for it unless you warp into empty sectors.

And how often does an ion storm occur.... Let's say every 6 hours even though it's more like 12. Now Lets take nyrius or azek, which are say 50% asteroids, you need to be in one of 120 or so sectors, so assuming you stay in one sector until it ions you'd need to wait say.... 720 hours for an ion to happen. I think staying in a single sector 720 hours to see something makes it rare.

Your math is extremely wrong and misleading "Clankplusm", ion storms do not take 720 hrs to occur, they occur much more frequently.

aye aryko you are right, was looking at what clank said and was confused how he can get 6hours to 720 hours all of a sudden, you cant just times all sector with a set time, ion storms aren't set timed. maybe the devs can give us an addon that lets i know the ion lasting rate?

He's assuming storms happen at an average rate of one storm sector per six hours per system, not every six hours per sector. Under that assumption, in a system with 120 storm-capable sectors it would indeed take an average of 720 hours spent in asteroid sectors to witness a storm start. There's nothing wrong with that math, but I don't know whether the underlying assumptions are actually correct. For example, storms could be randomly generated by the sectors, not the systems, meaning that systems with more asteroid sectors experience more storms per day.

I don't care about this enough to build some bots and spend a week collecting meteorological data, but sufficiently curious players could do that.

It was my understanding that each non-capitol sector had 5 storms that were always present, and that these storms moved from one roid sector to another every few hours.
