Hive drop request: Hive Leviathan Capital Cannon
The ones that can target and shoot through asteroids. The Leviathan has so many of these, i'm surprised they don't drop when the bot blows up.
All Gauss based weapons can shoot through solid objects,
There are two different issues here.
1) Gauss effects take awhile to dissipate after a collision, and they keep going, so the "effect" goes through objects. This is not the same as the actual shot going through an object. 99% of the time, it's just the harmless visual effect that's coming out the other side.
2) Thin objects can sometimes be penetrated by shots that are moving very quickly, which the Leviathan gauss do. It still doesn't happen quite as frequently as people think, but it definitely happens under some circumstances. It's a side effect of fixed-timestep collision detection and high-speed objects.
Thus, most of the time people are mistaken about shots "going through" objects, due to #1. The Leviathan shots move faster than most, so there are more collision detection errors. But in any case, penetrating objects is not really a "feature" of that weapon, as it depends on a lot of other factors (thickness and angle of the intervening object, and exactly where that object happens to be during the physics timestep).
I know I've experimented with some shots that have an "explosion-esque" area effect as well. Area affect can also give the impression of a shot penetrating "through" an object, simply because you still get hurt by the area-affect if you're within the radius of the effect.. regardless of whether you're behind cover or not.
Anyway, no, I'm not currently planning to make the Leviathan weapons droppable..

Pretty sure I have been hit (and damaged) by Levi-Gauss through roids in the past. Has there been a change (in the last year or so) to how Levi-Gauss function, or am I simply mistaken?
I just took damage tonight by Levi shots through a roid
I.. specifically said it does happen? I'm not sure what you guys are trying to point out. The Leviathan sector has some thin asteroids which can show the collision issue.
But, that is not the same as "levi shots go through all roids", or even that it's the common case. Nor is it consistently predictable in some way that would make it a meaningful "feature" of the weapon as a "drop" (for instance, the Leviathan doesn't move, and angles/distances are important to the collision issue).

But, the levi shots do go through all roids and the leviathan does often move albeit somewhat slow. Ive seen the levi completely out of the roid ring due to it moving.
(facepalm)
Everything I said is accurate, and you're missing the point.
The request was for a "feature" derived from this occasional bug that stems from specific requirements in a specific sector, which is largely surrounded by thin asteroid segments.
It is NOT a generalized feature. Levi shots will never penetrate a "thick" object (like many other types of asteroids which are not featured in the "levi ring"), where the object thickness and angle is such that the collision detection framerate is faster than the time required for the shot to traverse the object.
And no, I'm not going to make the levi weapons drop.
Anyway, I'm locking this because people don't seem to be reading or comprehending, and it isn't really important anyway..
