Flak Turrets
We have a fair number of turrets, but we don't have any turrets that are area denial weapons. I'd like to see a turret that launches a number of projectiles that fly out in a pattern and explode at a set distance from the launcher, the distance being determined by the launcher type.

Why not just make missiles and rockets destroyable? Though it does sound neat to have a short-range denial weapon.
A classic styled flak weapon would turn the tables in the war between fighter and capital ship.
That being said, this type of weapon when used in other games has been awe inspiring...
Maybe it could be for the yet to be released larger capships, such as the capella, adding this area dominating ability to the trident would mess with the use as a small transporter, it would become unstoppable.

To be honest, i dont like the idea of a flak turret. As you said, it would turn the tides between capital ships and fighters. Fighters would then be too overpowered and bombers would lose their purpose because people would just use fighters and bombers would be useless because an easier way to assault a cap ship would be a fighter. It would make the game unbalanced

Destroyers, bombers would merely need to fire from farther away - this weapon, as we have said, is a short range denial weapon. Fighters would have more issue, but not as much as you think.
+1 The flak cannon is my alltime favorite.

But +1, apart from the technical aspects (would need a long cool down timer that could not be subverted by turret-hopping, might cause lag, etc.etc.) VO does need some kind of flak.
