Make the Goliath a straight buy.

I think avoiding the grind with in-game currency is acceptable.

Maybe it could have been acceptable, maybe not, but a lot of people have made Goliath's and none of them are going to be happy if what OP suggests is done. Hence, more forum drama.

@Nico
I think those people were honestly screwed, I don't think the developers should double down on a bad idea just because some very committed people actually engaged with the content.

To be honest, there is already a way to skip some of the grind with in game cash. You can actually pay people to grind for you with in game (or even out of game) cash if you really want to. Of course this does by-pass regulations somewhat so you are on your own if the other party pulls out, so why do we even care?

Most of the parts can be built buy others and dropped, which does actually encourage P2P interaction, stories, scams, RP and other good game stuff. This takes all that away, and one thing VO needs is more P2P trades IMHO.

-1 still

The thing VO needs more than anything is more subscribers
as soon as they realise how hard it is to build a capship they give up and go play another game

what yoda said.

Well I've gotten all of VO's movers and shakers to respond. Now all I have to do is visit Don Bergman on the day of his daughters wedding.

how about making the Goliath buyable for LTS only
Mar 15, 2018 Luxen link
because LTS isnt supposed to get benefits like that. LTS pilots get access to special liveries and in-development content, but it doesnt give them any kind of real benefit over normal pilots.

Making it buyable for LTS is a great idea. I wouldn't recommend making it lower than 20mil 10/10/10/10/10. VO didn't exactly suffer during Goliath testing (As far as I can tell)

While I am not the one that needs convincing, I've yet to see a convincing argument for having cappies as anything other than manufacturable, by subbed players.

Still a solid -1 from me.

VO didn't exactly suffer during Goliath testing

*DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING!*

Very astute observation. If anything, things got a lot more interesting for a certain period of time with Goliaths readily available.

A lot of people hate mobile and think it shouldn't of happened ... but it saved the game

A lot of people don't want buyable capships but .....................
Mar 17, 2018 yodaofborg link
Yes because not being able to build a capship is the reason most people leave. Building capships brought in soo many subscribers so you must be right!

Bring a good argument to the table and I may have more time for it Drev mate, but this is like comparing apples and oranges mate.

How is his argument not a good one?

I think the fact that Goliath's were purchasable for several months(?) and we saw no fundamental crumbling of VO, no cries of unfairness or pay to win (even by those who regularly cry about such things in the forums), AND we saw a nice uptick in gameplay as a result, is a spectacular argument.

"No pay 2 win" is one of those things that is seen as a fundamental part of VO's nature, and anything that even remotely resembles the idea is bemoaned by many vets (and probably incarnate) as a measure that will totally ruin the game. Yet we have the Goliath example. HMMMM.

Reminds me of the gun control debate in the US... where a small majority of people think that the apocalypse will occur if anyone so much as considers making it harder to obtain a gun.

*EDIT: just realized I confused Drevent with aaronund...nevertheless I think the point about Goliath purchasability not breaking the game is a good one*

Yoda VO is going to have five player controllable capital ships, at what point does VO create too much end-game content for people who have been playing 5 years or more?

My arguments for those who asked.
(1) Making the Goliath buyable will encourage new players to subscribe and begin working towards it. It is realistic that they could do this in under a year.

(2) The license requirement means that every player has to play a bit of every role.

(3) It removes veteran assistance from the equation. It removes the need for station access, hauling buddies, guild protections. All of these things encourage players to jump into an existing guild and it's drama and it's nonsense.

(4) It only makes the Trident possible. It doesn't damage the Trident's value enough to cause complaint. Manufacturing capital ship parts would still be a profitable gameplay endeavor. Having a capital ship that is easier to acquire would allow for future builds such as the Capella or Tridents type S and P slightly easier and that will go a long way when people start building the Capella.

(5) It adds a way that someone can lose credits. People have been saying for a long time that credits have no value. Adding the Goliath to the list of ships that can lost during PVP action would help remedy that.

(6) It doesn't damage conventional PVP but accessibility allows for greater capital ship PVP. Capital ship weapons are at the point where they pose no real risk to smaller more nimble fighters. I don't need to explain why more capital ships = more capital ship PVP/

I believe i had other points but sure as heck i can't remember them now.
Mar 17, 2018 Luxen link
okay, given those points, I can fairly agree with +1-ing this. but what happens to the existing goliaths that were built? are we gonna leave those as some separate version?
Mar 17, 2018 aaronund link
Yep Manufactured Goliaths shouldn't be affected.
Mar 17, 2018 Darth Nihilus link
I like the idea of a completely new variant of the goliath that is purchasable with credits, not $$$. In my opinion, this would validate aaronund's points.
