/faction_honor command

Feb 12, 2019 Roda Slane link
/faction_honor [ faction | default [ on | off | default | verbose | quiet | display ] | display ]

/faction_honor on : You can not accomplish an action that would upset the faction of whose space you currently reside. You can not damage anyone protected by that faction, in that factions space, etc.. and if verbose is turned on, you will receive a message: "/faction_honor faction on | verbose". Where the word faction is replace with the faction in question.

Without a parameters it displays usage text.
each faction can set to be on | off | default and verbose | quiet
you can set default to on | off and verbose | quiet
you can display the current settings for default, each faction, or everything.

All new characters should start with the default set to on | verbose, and all factions set to default.
All existing characters should default off | quiet, all factions default.

edit: The initial implementation could be minimal, /faction_honor [ 0 | 1 ], global to all factions.

How would this suggestion affect a player that mines a staton by planting lightning mines inside the walls or shoots avalons at a station? The way I'm reading it, it could be exploited to allow mines or avalons to not target friendly NPCs while allowing the same weapons to kill anybody that would not generate a faction loss. I would assume that the station's NFZ would provide protection from mines, but I'm not sure if it's smart enough to recognize an avalon launched from outside the NFZ as a breach of the NFZ if it killed a pilot inside the NFZ.

The game currently does not allow two players of the same faction to harm each other in a capital system, so I believe that the devs already have it worked out to whom and when damage is applied.

Yes, you could exploit this to target players not under faction protection, while eliminating friendly fire. But the player being targeted would need to be -600 standing with that faction, so a strike force is already chasing them anyway, or they attacked you in that factions space, and you are defending yourself.

I am not just talking about NFZ, but all of faction monitored space, of all factions, including Corvus.

And in mentioning that, Corvus would need to start including the self defense flag, like the other factions.

Did you have some alternatives in mind?

So basically like spectator mode in GTA V. No.

It is police mode. If you only want to attack pirates and aggressors, while keeping the law on your side, you turn it on.

If you are a pirate or aggressor, and are willing to suffer faction standing loss and faction penalties, you turn it off.

Players are not police. Also what does this add to the game as a whole, why would it be used?

:Current game mechanic:
In faction capital systems,
players of the same faction,
can not damage each other,
you can not turn this off.

:Suggested replacement:
In faction monitored space,
players in good standing with the monitoring faction,
can not damage each other,
unless, an individual player turns this feature off for themselves.

So then I could make a player toon that attacks newbs in nation capitols without punishment?

:current:
I cannot do this

:suggested:
I can make a *bus* character that uses my skills to abuse new players. when this character is now hated I delete and start again.

-1 The OP was very difficult to understand but what I gather from other people gathering it just sounds like a exploit waiting to happen; maybe in the future all players could start out unaligned but we’ll wait till vendetta has a population boom.

@ Wind Employment: interesting point. the two systems could be added to each other.

@ Tripod: This is a design change meant to allow further extension of the faction system, to reduce alt abuse.

I'm only against this because command-line only suggestions don't serve this game any longer.

@greenwall: thank you for being specific about your objection. you could go further, and add your opinion about the desired final result, and your suggested implementation of a gui.

It is REALLY bad for VO to have any kind of PvP flag
Jun 17, 2019 Pizzasgood link
Dude. This thread was buried four months deep. Plus you don't seem to have understood it anyway. Roda wasn't asking for a PVP flag. Enabling it would not allow you to opt out of PVP. This is more like the safety toggle on a gun. Turning it on only affects who you can hurt. It has no bearing on who is able to hurt you.

But eh, as long as we're in here, -1 to silly magic non-damage. Yes, capitals already work this way, and yes, I'm opposed to that as well.
