Large port Capitol Gauss Cannon

Currently there are very few useful addons for the main gun on a trident or goliath. The Mega Positron blaster, the AGT, and the Queen Gatling turret deal admirable damage per second, but for capitol ships their range is pitiful. The TU would be useful if it held enough ammunition, but it does not. The Avalon just moves too slow, and just like the other expendable munitions, lacks sufficient ammunition capacity for an extended engagement with a capitol ship.

The Cap cannon that the military tridents use in the border and hive skirmishes seems to be the best option for a weapon that mostly already exists, just the mass may need adjustment. This I hope would be simple to execute. I think a mass of 50,000kg, with a grid usage of 4 would be a good starting point. The idea behind the 50T mass is to discourage usage on smaller craft without raising the grid high enough to crimp load out potentials on the Goliath.

There needs to be LP weapon for is more capship centric. The capital cannon that NPC moths and tridents use would be perfect.

The reason for the high mass value is to discourage usage by fighters. The standard Capitol Gauss Turret does 3000 damage and travels at a velocity of 240 m/s. This would be over powered at this time on fighters at it's current mass of I think 100kg. Upping it's grid usage to say 25 or 30 I think may limit it's usefulness to Trident and Goliath owners. So I came up with the idea of just making it so damn heavy that it isn't practical to use it on lighter ships.

The extra 50,000 KG on top of the million plus mass of a capship is so small as to be lost in the background noise of what other ships and cargo are onboard.

thread bump, player based capship vs capship combat feels like something that would add to the game without drawing too much dev time

but i think that a better approach would be to re-define the weapon port on capships as a "capital class large port"-- in the same way that capships can equip a class of turret that is unavailable to the moth/atlas, so could the weapon port on a capship be made to equip a class of large port weapon that would not fit lesser class ships.

....yes, i'm leading towards the possibility of a capital-class gat-cannon ;-;

+1 there should be more LP capitol weapons in general gaus posi neut and mining beams : )
give them 25/35 grid so fighter ships cant use them

+1 I agree. We need more weapons for the capital ships. It would also be nice to add an energetic weapon for capships with slow projectiles but high damage and range. Something like theradon cannons.
