Corvus TKOS rules aren't consistent with RP

Corvus stations (which according to description are a hangout for nefarious types).. should not TKOS a player for shooting another player.

The only TKOS that should be possible at a corvus station should come from shooting the guards or docking corvus convoys.

This would be more consistent with RP in the game because Corvus is where outlaws are sent when they KOS in nation space. This is of course not a punishment at all if they are just being exiled to another faction space. Corvus is were killers are sent and for sake of RP this means the danger of being sent there is that it is essentially lawless. It should be "dog eat dog" without repercussions

1. This would also help reconcile the awkward RP of a person who is KOS with corvus still remaining homed at the station.

2. This would help reconcile the RP inconsistency of TKOS for nefarious acts by pirate players at Corvus stations.

3. This would make exile to Corvus an actual punishment for players being temporarily exiled.

Subsequently it would be more consistent if shooting a guard or convoy accidentally did not cause you to be exiled to Corvus, but rather the exile only happen if you kill (or possibly inflict a certain amount of damage).. the nation stations should instead do a temporary penalty (TPEN) whereby you cannot buy certain things until it times out.

Corvus has never been a pirate faction. I've written about this at some length before.

Corvus is basically ambivalent about who they are willing to work with, but they don't explicitly pursue nefarious activities, they just don't care one way or the other. You could view them as morally and ethically "flexible".

They would care about issues that directly impact their operations and "bottom line" in terms of efficiency of delivery and profits.

So.. two aspects of a response..

1) The "outlaw" RP argument isn't really meaningful, because the commonly cited RP "perspective" on Corvus is inaccurate. They should have TKOS.

2) We have this TempKoS / teleport system in place to rapidly deal with people who repeatedly grief relative newbies under throw-away accounts and characters, for the joy of causing stress to others. The game is intended to be combative, but there's also meant to be a measured "gradient" to relative risk that increases as one goes from Nation Space into Grayspace.

The system in place now is certainly imperfect, but it does have some impact on reducing the activity of bad actors, because it simply makes it a little more of a hassle.

We arrived at the current system after going through implementations that are closer to what you describe, and the system became more rigorous after that proved to be ineffective in diminishing the problematic behaviour.

3) I agree the RP issue of being homed at a station that regards you as KoS is a bit odd. It was a known challenge of the recent change. In the longer run, I could see other stations existing, small outlying facilities that are run-down and have little resources, where one might be randomly "left" if one successfully becomes KoS with all factions. Things can be as "wild west" there as anyone likes, as there won't be convoys, or missions, or much of anything happening. But, implementing that isn't super high on my priority list right now.

---------

I'm open to continued feedback and discussion on all of the above, and the problems of the current system and the like. I'm just clarifying why things are the way they are, at the moment.

I wasn't aware that you viewed the Corvus stations so much differently from players.. Thank you for your reply
