Wormholes... they should be real holes, not just waypoints

The topic says it all, make them something more solid, if any of you have seen Cowboy Bebop, make them long tubes that only work one way, you could still keep the same animation, just a little longer, showing the ship going through the entry tube and then warping, later leaving through an exit in the adjacent sector or w/e. This, although, would make invisable sectors moot...just a thought...

While the wormholes were modelled after those in Bebop somewhat, you'll notice that they're closer to a situation where if the distance between points A and B is x, then the wormhole distance is .5x. Vendetta's wormholes seem to be instantaneous transportation from A to B, regardless of distance. While it would be cool to see, for example tubes stretching to a point of infinity, it would put a major strain on the engine that I'm not sure the server would like to handle all the time. Bleh. I'm tired.

Just have a few turret-looking thingies surrounding the warp area, with faint blue beams towards the centre. Or summat.

Orrrrrr... just use the "stargate" thingie that they had and because the jumping animation looks screwy when the jump is off-center, force all jumps to teh center of the gate when activated.

Change 'activate warp' to 'create artificial wormhole'.

What about this - Make the main jumps warpgates, and the hidden ones deactivated warpgates that only open when you get close enough. that way they are hidden, but still of uniform consistency.

thinking from a point of view of the game, keeping wormholes constantly open while no people are going through it is an enormous waste of energy, maybe a small communciations wormhole should be kept open instead of a giant 1000 meter one for a player to go through...

then there's the jumping in wing commander which i think its pretty nice, but it'd require altering alot of base history of the game, so instead of warp points with special gravity distortions tha tconnects different sectors of the universe, you have gravity distortions caused by quasars that connects to different sectors of the universe with probabliity of ending up in an infinite amount of places...

but then you can do myraids of stuff with the such an idea like buying nav-coms and upgrading them for more and more accurate jumps... and people can actually type in unlisted coordinates to jump to hidden sectors and such... and coordinates change over time so people need s to constantly experiment.

of course then there's copyright issues if we mimic the wing commander or stargate idea too closely... and legal issues are the most annoying thing to a company i'd say...

i'd say they're fine as they are atm too. i kinda like them this way. it also goes along with the storyline that there may be undocumented hidden wormholes that you just stumble upon (yeah, thats a long way in the future or vendetta true)

keep them as they are, i dont want to go back to the days of giant gree balls floating in space!

The only thing I would change would be to make it possible to drop nav-buoys at newly discovered wormholes. These buoys would have a certain transmission code, and could only be seen by someone who knew the code. Perhaps there could then be gov't sponsored missions to lay buoys that would be visible to all.

In any case, It would be these objects that would show up on radars, not the holes themselves. Of course, this is all assuming that wormholes will continue to operate the same way they do now when there are hundreds of sectors, which I suspect is unlikely.

The fact that wormholes are little waypoints on your screen makes the game kind of ugly and low-grade.

I say there should be at least some kind of object near the waypoint, maybe a small floating tower with a blinking light on the top? Something to give the waypoints a little more flavor.

how about electricity guns on little rings that shoot you at 100 times faster than speed of light to get to another sector in like 1 min and 20 sec and peaple can see you, like your a comet (sectors would be like 1000000000000m away) and you can use a faster one exept it takes all of your energy like in the regular wormholes and shoot you 1000 times faster than the speed of light and let you get to the next sector in like 50 sec

As you go farther from hte center of the sector, the sector adds lag to those in the center. The processing slows down. Go far enough, the sector crashes. Having sectors next to each other... wouldn't work.

Not to mention LIGHT SPEED isn't possible. See Einstein's Theory Of Relativity for more information.

The current holes are just tunnels through space. Wormholes are really just a Blackhole connected to a White hole on the other end. You enter the black hole and instantly arrive at the white hole and are spewed out the White one.
