Game plotting through KoS Space

Aug 14, 2021 Scion_Spy link
The games nav plotter takes you through Nation space as a priority rather than grey-space because it is "safer".

However, when you're KoS to said faction, and you plot from Bractus to Ukari, and it plots you through "Safer" UIT KoS space.

Wondering if it's possible (And not too difficult) to put in a check to the plot system if you're hare or kos, plot through grey-space instead?

I understand that if you're KoS you're probably smart enough to check your plotting and see ahead of time that you're going through KoS Nation space, but it makes more logical sense that a nav computer, that's bound to the other systems of your ship would know this too :)

Like "Avoidance" routes/sectors.

It takes no consideration of safety, as far as I know. It will route via UiT space, or take the route it does from Sol II to Grey (via Dantia > Pyronis > Initros, rather than Dantia > Rhamus > Initros) simply due to the systems having a lower "number", it always plots shortest route (only considering system) outside of that.

I don't know how hard your suggestion would be to implement, as it would require some kind of and/or logic that I do not believe currently exists, but if it is possible, +1

Like you say a ships computer would already know it isn't welcome there (it can already tell you as much on the PDA), but I guess it depends on difficulty.

As far as distance goes,
Bractus -> Ukari via grey is 3 systems in between, and via uit is 5.

But this would definitely be more of a back burner thing if it were to get implemented.

If I am in Bractus, and plot to Ukari it will go via Grey space as it is shorter. If your client is plotting any other route? I don't know what to suggest, but if I plot a route from Bractus to Ukari it will (every time, no matter if I am in Bractus or not and certainly if I am) plot via grey. If yours is doing anything different I suggest you disable all plugins beforehand.

Lower system numbers and shortness is all that is counted (as far as I know, the developers are the only ones who can answer this properly).

Here is a video of me plotting a course from Pelatus to Ukari, and then flying to Bractus and plotting a course to Ukari using both methods (excuse the first /navroute add, I know I need the - but my keyboard switches are crap).

As you can see, all three times it goes via grey, as that is shorter. If I go to Edras first then it will certainly go via UiT space, as that is shorter. If yours is behaving any different then I would try without any TA or nav-aid plugins, because that is not the behaviour by default. I only go into this topic because it makes a difference on how hard an idea like this will be to implement. If there is already some kind of logic, then adding more can be simple. If there isn't currently any logic, and the system is simple, then adding logic can be a total rewrite of how the system works.

So yeah, if easy to do, +1, otherwise I can think of much better things to spend time on (my opinion is only my opinion).

psssssssst.

Yoda. Lemme tell you this slick cool secret, yah?

if you want a video to not be public, but visible to places you link it to...

set it to "Unlisted" when you upload it!

cheers!

That was the first thing I did and the behavior persisted. (Additionally, I don't use route updaters, unless Targetless comes with that)

Now I'm on a different character (Not UIT KoS) with and without plugins cannot reproduce; as such I will redact the first part to the "Safer routes" as it seems to no longer apply, however this is what i was told by many when i first joined.

I do agree this is def some kind of back-burner thing.

Heh luxen, inside joke pal, inside joke, but thanks for looking out dude!

Yeah, I get this - it is one of the things about VO I love (nobody knows everything), as most things are found out via exploration, but it does mean we can sometimes be totally wrong about how things work. For example it is quite common knowledge that POS provides extra protection at monitored space and better prices... (except neither of these things are true).

For this reason it is best to forget how you think it works, or how it would work if it was real, and just concentrate on the merits of the suggestion. Took me 16 years to work that out, and you are probably wrong for a start! :)
