Give TU mines massive concussion

Aug 31, 2021 We all float link
The TU mine is a nuke. I propose that when a TU mine is detonated, a massive concussion blast is added to the effect (in addition to the 15k damage). This concussion needs to be large enough to significantly move other capships near the blast.

The massive concussion from a TU would be add to the TU being a better defensive option. This would help solve the comment by csgno1 that there is no good defense against pcb.

Hell yes. +1

Just noting that.. as a "defensive" weapon, this could have as much impact on the person dropping it, as the person triggering it. Especially if you're talking about "significantly moving other capships near the blast", that's a really high intensity result over a large radius.

The "Force" application is on a fixed falloff curve.. I don't remember what it is (might be linear), but in order to do what the OP suggests, we're talking a very large amount of force, over a pretty large area (I can't trivially quantify the distances right now).

Any time we consider weapons with extreme power envelopes, there are other risks of additional potential "uses". Like, I dunno, blowing all the bots in a Hive Skirmish into the nearby asteroids, or smashing a Leviathan into the ring, that kind of thing. Maybe dislodging the defense turrets around a conquerable station?

I'm not arguing against this, I'm just pointing these things out, to make sure the potential ramifications of the request are well understood by those discussing the prospect.

Having it push the deploying ship sounds like a bonus to me. As a defensive weapon it would give you MORE separation from your attacker.

+1 I like the idea. Basically the existing TU with a monster conq mine component. Perhaps being behind a roid would offer protection, that sort of thing. But the TU should definitely affect even the person dropping it with concussion.

Maybe things like the Levi or turrets are capable of self-correcting their location. The levi, ostensibly, has more mass than the average bot (sammoflange and all). Turrets fly out to their locations from the station. Etc.

If I drop a TU to escape the unrats, I think I won't mind a little push. Maybe even a big one.

+1 Like the idea but a new mine "super concussion mine" would be even better. 4 ammo 1000m splash 250 energy to drop. No damage only tons of force.

no, a super concussion mine would not be better. Give the TU conc power.

As LNH says, having the deploying ship getting pushed as well like an ok idea. That would cause farther potential separation. Which might give the needed time to jump.

tbh the cost of tu mines and npcs being able to shoot any mine makes tus completely irrelevent, the cost alone makes it unviable, send 500k on just 1 mine or buy a boat load of equipped ships. for this reason i give a
-1
wasted dev time on non viable mines is pointless

Anewold, are you only -1 ing this because of the cost? This addition would be the cost very much worthwhile.

I think what he means to say is that they enjoy very limited use due to their cost, which is a fair criticism of making any more modifications.

I've increased the Force 10x over what it was before, it's now live in production like that.

Does anyone have feedback on how this is? Is it more fun? Has it added greater defensive relevance?
Sep 16, 2021 We all float link
It is more fun. It does NOT bounce tridents around though. It would be nice if it had enough oomf to knock a turboing dent off course by a few degrees.
Sep 17, 2021 incarnate link
Well, I'll think about that.

At some point, the "oomf" of knocking a Trident off course, could also be enough for someone to use their Vulture to kill a trident by collision, or something like that.
Sep 17, 2021 HunPredator link
Yeah... kind of
With that much conc a vulture would be equal to a huge cannon shell, but idk if ships only spin or fly in a certain direction too at high speed from conc
This actually can be a good defense against queens though even now!
By testing on PCC it can make queens spin a bit, so this can be used to knock them away so you can lose less hp while killing them?
Idk
Just a thing I noticed
