Avoiding strike force freindly fire

WaF's thread gave me an idea. Currently there is friendly fire protection in national capitol systems.

Can a friendly fire protection be setup for NPC ships to do 0 damage if your LOCAL standing is above -600 then local faction NPC ships extend friendly fire protection to you?

Currently I can take my UIT KOS character up to for instance Dau L-11 and hide in the docking bay of a UIT characters trident, and assuming they are not hate or kos, the strike force can hammer away till doomsday and not hurt them.

The main uses I see for this is to avoid the currently broken mechanic of being able to kill capitol ships with strike forces. There may also be the occasional truly accidental kill the strike force pulls off, mostly with aerna seekers, and the flare spraying WTD's.

I would not want this friendly fire protection to go both ways, as that precludes someone from deciding to kill an NPC at a station when they are willing (or eager) to take the faction hit for whatever reason.

So, basically what you're suggesting is that anyone who is NOT TempKoS, KoS or otherwise hated with the local faction, will be given FF by the guarding NPCs?

It's an interesting notion. I don't love FF, it's kind of a hack and problematic, it still remains in the capitols largely to protect newbies from griefing by other veterans-pretending-to-be-newbies.

This would at least be mostly-transparent from a player standpoint, since it would only impact guard-to-player interactions.

It doesn't really solve for weapons that have characteristics outside of energy or explosive impact. For instance, force-impact. The defense turrets do a pretty decent amount of Force impact, and that might scale over time. You might not be able to move a capship with the "brakes" engaged, but.. eh.

Anyway, noted, I'll think about it.
