Petition To Remove Logoff-While-Invincible!

Feb 05, 2004 Archon link
Anyone else in favor of getting rid of the logoff-while-invincible exploit/bug?
(logoff-while-invincible = logoff-in-warp, basically).

If this petition included /explode I'd sign it. But since it doesn't I won't. You can't remove one "exploit" while keeping another.

I'm in favor.

sounds good, too bad the devs never listen to, or read these...

I use a joystick and have no problems using /logoff either. Something else has to be going on with your PC roguelazer. :-\

How is killing yourself while invincible an exploit?
Feb 05, 2004 roguelazer link
Against. This doesn't -harm- anyone in any way and therefore does not merit consideration at this point.
Feb 06, 2004 Ceadda link
Against. Until they fix the ****ed up joystick code this is currently the "ONLY" way that I can log off without being at a station. Why? Vendetta currently considers anything but an abosolute perfect 0,0,0,0 reading from a digital joystick's axis's to mean that you are still piloting the ship, and rejects all logoff attempts. It does, however, completely ignore the joystick as long as you logoff during a warp. The moment you touch the joystick again, its back to impossible logoff...

This happens in the linux client with 3 to 6 (yes they make six, don't forget about the hat switch and throttle which count for 3) axis digital 3d joysticks... have tested it with Microsoft and Logitech, on 1 Toshiba 1 eMachine and a Sovy Viao...

Thats just bad programming :)
Bug-report it, as it should have a minimums-threshold before reacting to input...

roguelazer, why do we have a countdown timer? Ask yourself, what is the original intent of preventing people from logging off immediately when they type the cmd?
Feb 06, 2004 roguelazer link
Who says I was in favour of the timer? Ceadda is right, anyhow. If you have a joystick, logging off in space is impossible usually. I made a bugpost about htis in 3.1, and it was largely ignored...

i have no trouble logging off in space with my joystick, never gives me any problems.
Feb 06, 2004 roguelazer link
No. If the joystick's throttle is even a "tiny" bit off center (which is hard to find, since there's no notch), Vendetta reads it as acceleration or decelleration and cancels the logoff. It's bloody annoying is what it is.

Didn't see this but I'll sign it.

The joystick code has adjustable dead zones, but the interface doesn't let you change them. They're set to 10% by default.

Ah, but I just noticed that the Linux joystick code ignores dead zones, saturation, and calibration because it isn't implemented. That's the problem.

*AgY ponders

two options

<1> adding it to the linux joystick driver.
- Thats not that hard. But i cant find any documentation about the way the control should work. (percentage?)
<2> adding it to vendetta
- also not that hard. And its up to you how you do it.
