Whats about Native Wayland Support?
Wayland is the future of Linux Desktop and SteamDeck will use Wayland too.

Why Wayland:
Xorg support is not really anymore "supported" on linux. The develeoper of xorg say its the hell to maintain code that is in his parts over 10 years old. Written for Hardware basics 10+ Years ago. Wayland will get with the years the default system.
Wayland brngs modern functions to linux desktop. KDE and Gnome already support it. Its not bug free yet.
SteamDeck will use Wayland too. You Support Android already what about Releasing on Steam/SteamDeck in the future.
Wayland is something "like" opengl vs vulkan.
The Vendetta Team is working to make the Game more Modern. New GUI and Vulkan Support. Why not to support modern systems on linux.

"modern linux systems" still use X11 as is shown on the aforementioned image... unfortunately wayland is still not stable. In fact it doesn't support anything new in terms of hardware compatability. It is just a different code base and has the compositor buffer built in instead of separate. While I agree that Linux as a whole will eventually move to wayland, progress still remains very slow on wayland itself. Also note that "support for wayland" does not mean "requires wayland".. so those packages that support wayland on linux won't necessarily get used with wayland in most cases. X11 is just really damn stable... Also there are a slew of other applications that just will not work on wayland and all those projects would require a fairly deep rewrite which will also take quite some time. For this reason I will disagree with VO moving to a completely different system on Linux as it would be grossly premature. Also please note that a previous statement is incorrect.. wayland does not bring any new functionality to the linux desktop at all and any desktop environment that offers support for wayland is sacrificing functionality at this time.

1. It Will Run on Wayland

Pierre-Loup Griffais (Valve) confirmed that the Steam Deck will run on Wayland using the compositor gamescope, which is optimized for speed.

I know that X11 is more stable as wayland. I dont have said that VO should switch. I only asked for support it. Maybe VO should add SDl2 support maybe than it would be much easier to support X11 and Wayland at the same time.

I respect your suggestion LinuxDonald.. I just feel like it will add a layer of work for the linux client that will make it even more unlikely to get improvements to the linux client gameplay/ui etc.. Though most of the people in my VO circles are using either Linux or Android, it is typical that we would be the smallest part of the user base for this game as well.

you are correct sir in pointing out that "adding support" is different from "converting too"

Yeah you are right Linux user base will be small :( I'm still waiting for the new gui and vulkan support on Linux :-(
I don't play often this game but I like it. And it would be nice to be at the same level as the windows client. Maybe text input under Wayland would get fixed with the new gui/gui code.

LinuxDonald, is there a particular distribution (or distro release version) that encapsulates the problematic experience and test-case that you see failing?

I have this tested on manjaro linux with Wayland and KDE Plasma and Gnome. On both there is an input problem.

Sorry for the long delay. Don't checked the forum :-(

In Window mode the text input works but not in fullscreen..

Hello. I've switched to KDE Plasma from Xfce and haven't been bable to play ever since. I, just yesterday, loaded with Wayland

With the gui update. Now it seems to work. Or something fixed in KDE.
