Corporate Wars

Feb 09, 2022 Sid123 link
We currently have only 1 war going on. The Serco-Itani war. But RP suggests that there is a lot of rivalry between the various UIT corposrations, especially between Valent and Axia. So I propose Corporate Wars, and Corporate Mercenary Forces

The Valent Mercenerary Forces (VMF)
Players may join the VMF and work as soldiers for hire for Valent Robotics. The mission to join the VMF will not be as simple as the mission to join the Serco/Itani militaries. It will be a part of the "Axis Must Die" branch of the Party Errands (or is it Xithricite Apothecarium? I forget) mission tree. The Valent Marauder and furies both will be available only to members of the VMF. VMF members will be given "raid" missions or "Spy" missions. Raid missions will require them to raid Axia/Orion convoys. "Spy" missions will require them to follow an Axia/Orion convoy until it reaches greyspace, after which a group of Valent NPCs come to raid it. Here the player may choose to participate or not participate in the raid. Participating will lead to greater reward, but will involve combat. If the player chooses not to participate, the mission ends then and there with no combat and a smaller payoff. Prolonged inactivity it said missions, ie, if these missions are not taken and completed for an extended period of time (say a month) the player will be fired from the VMF and will lose access to the Valent Marauder and furies. Once a player loses their post in the VMF, they have to pay a significant credit cost (10 mil(?)) to rejoin.

The Axia Mercenary Forces (AMF)
Everything is similar to the VMF, except the target convoys will be Valent/Biocom and the unlocked ship will be the Axia Wraith. Everything else is the same.

The Biocom Auxiliary Forces (BAF)
Here, instead of Spy and Raid missions, there are "Spy Apprehension" and "Escort" missions. I know that escort missions already exist, but these escort missions will involve multiple ships, including capships and give higher payoff. Obviously failing a large escort mission will also result in high standing loss and possible removal from the BAF. "Spy Apprehension" missions involve accompanying a Valent/Biocom convoy and keeping in eye out for spies, ie, NPCs who are following the convoy. A spy may or may not be there, so it is essentially a harder version of the Escort mission. If a spy is identified and a warning is issued, the convoy will divert to the nearest Valent/Biocom station instead of traveling to the destination outside UIT space. If no warning is issued, the voy will continue on its route. Successfully reaching the destination, which will always involve passage through greyspace, will lead to large reward and promotion. The size of the reward and the contribution towards promotion will increase proportionally with the size of the convoy. And the max size of convoy you can be assigned to escort will also be determined by your rank in the BAF, which is determined by previous BAF missions, and so on. If, however, in a "Spy Apprehension" mission there is a Spy which you fail to apprehend, a hostile NPC squadron will spawn to raid the convoy. Here the player has a choice to stay and defend the convoy, or to give up. Giving up will cause a large standing loss, reduce progress in rank and/or cause removal from the BAF. Staying and fighting will still cause a loss in the above three, but the loss will be to a lesser extent. Members of the BAF unlock the Biocom Vulture XT. Not taking missions for an extended period will cause demotion or removal.

Orion Auxiliary Forces (OAF)
Similar to BAF, but the convoys to be escorted are Axia/Orion instead of Valent/Biocom. The unlocked ship will be the Orion Centurion Rev C (or the Orion Hornet... I'm not sure which one to put here).

TPG Peacemakers (TPGP)
An organisation devoted to keeping the corporate wars in check, the TPGP guards the interests of all the other 4 UIT corporations, while ensuring profit for TPG. TPGP members will have, instead of seperate missions taken at stations, a single "Patrol" mission, a responsibility to stop any conflict between the corporations by basically beating up both. The above mentioned missions for VMF, AMF, BAF and OAF will continue occuring with NPCs even if players don't take them. Similar to what happens with the convoys currently. NPCs will do the job that players would do otherwise. So it is the responsibility of any TPGP member, if they see a convoy of any of the corporations being attacked by another corp, to call for help and also personally help in the convoys protection. So if a member of TPGP sees a convoy being attacked (by NPCs of another corp or a player as part of a mission for the aforementioned forces), the player calls for a squadron and also helps in killing the aggressor squadron. If the convoy is protected, it will give credits to the player based on, similar to escort missions, the value of the cargo it is carrying. The player will also get promotion progress based on the value of the convoy they protected and maybe the size of the aggressor squadron as well. Doing this without a helper squadron will lead to better payoff. Seeing a voy being attacked by another corp and not intervening will lead to loss of progress to promotion and/or removal from TPGP. Higher promotion leads to the ability to call better squadrons, eventually leading to the ultimate helper squadron consisting of a Trident Light Frigate and multiple (15(?)) fighters. Calling a squadron without reason, ie, if no convoy is being attacked in your sector, will lead to promotion loss as it is irresponsible. The player will also however have the ability to hire a squadron, independent of whether a voy is being attacked or not, for personal use. The size and proportional cost of this squadron will be determined by the level of promotion. A highly promoted TPGP member can hire a squadron consisting of a Trident Light Frigate and multiple fighters, for a limited period of time. TPGP members also unlock the TPG Raptor Mark ll.

What I have essentially done here is divided UIT into three sides. The Valent/Biocom alliance, the Axia/Orion alliance and TPG to stop them beating each other up by beating up them all. The "Corporation military" ships mentioned above (Valent Marauder, Axia Wraith, Biocom Vulture XT, Orion Centurion/Hornet and TPG Raptor Mark ll) will be available only to members of the respective miltaries. A player can join only one of the above militaries. Promotion and demotion are determined by your relative degree of success or failure in a mission.

I just posted my suggestion to see how it looks....it's a bloody novel. But I can't think of how to make it shorter.

I would cut this up into different threads, because this does resemble a novel and does not optimize the dev's time. I imagine that you feel that all of this is interdependent, but these really do need to be much more discreet and succinct to be useful. Rule #5.

Mercenary forces
Auxiliary forces
Spy missions
Spy apprehension missions
Raid Missions
Escort missions (differentiated from existing)\Patrol missions
etc.

You haven't supported your suggestion other than to say that "RP suggests that there is a lot of rivalry", which isn't a persuasive reason. The devs are looking for suggestions that "...maximize value derived from developer-time-spent, for the benefit of the game and community...". To my mind these would be tweaks to existing content, additions of useful features, simple, elegant solutions to existing problems, streamlining, etc.. If you look back at the suggestions that have been integrated into the game, you'll get the idea. I suppose you could preface suggestions like the above with "This is a long-range suggestion for the future" or some manner of explaining you know this is unlikely to be happening any time soon and is just for future reference.

I do like your engagement in Suggestions, and the fact that you have engaged others by discussing suggestions on Discord. I don't want to dissuade you from making suggestions. I DO want you to benefit from my experience of the best way to capture the dev's attention.

I think some of this would be better to develop as a mission tree on the PCC.

I agree, some of this could happen there.

Yes I'll divide this suggestion into multiple smaller and better explained suggestion with links. Only one problem. I don't know how to attach clickable links to the posts. I've seen you guys do it, but I haven't figured it out. Please help by teaching me how to do that.

Just remove the unneeded spaces and use proper links

Thanks. I'll try that.

You may also want to read some of the old threads on Dynamic Warfare, one of the zillion things I've wanted to do for years, and not yet been able to deliver.

Yes I understand that something like this would require a huge amount of time and effort. I should probably reduce the number of macro suggestions and try to reduce the scale of my suggestions.
