Primary/Secondary colour palate
Had an idea for 2 options of colour, so we can better personalise our most beloved Ship's.
For example, the warthog, which is one of my personal favorites; right now its only possible to change the colour of the strips on that specific ship. But what if we could change the main colour too? Say if your Serco and like to have your faction colour on every ship, that preference leaves little room for personalisation, however if a primary/Secondary colour palate system was introduced, everyones ship would look just a wee bit different, adding diversity and a personal touch, increasing the Immersion factor Tenfold!
As for AI Ship's the Secondary Colour would remain as Faction colours, and the primary Colour set at random, so when you fly past a convoy your greeted with a fantastic rainbow of colour and also be able to Identify which faction the Ship's or convoys belong to.

I actually responded to an earlier thread about this, which I can't find now. There is also this one about capships.
Anyway, this basically means all the ship-shaders have to be redone across all graphics APIs and platforms, aside from the UX work of secondary color-pickers and such.
I'm (still) not against it, but it's (still) not the simplest or fastest thing for us to do.
The actual work itself isn't even as bad as all the Q/A and testing. I mean, how often do you hear people complaining about "their ship is black" or weird lighting or some other problem.. that's simply because of the proliferation of bugs in drivers, particularly on mobile. Any time we change something fundamental, it causes some other devices to break.
So, anyway, it is something that on the radar, but I don't know when we'll get to it.

Sounds like a pretty hefty task having to trace back and redux an already perfectly developed colour system, not to mention having to work with multiple platforms, that is no small feat at all, Nonetheless I respect your decisions, VO is already a masterpiece as it stands right now! :)
