Best Duel Ratings suggestion

Instead of Monthly and yearly duel ratings... here's the best idea that might be simpler to employ...

I see duel ratings of players I haven't seen in a very long time keep those high ratings. Let us let time erode the duel rating exponentially. Duel ratings should require a duel bi-weekly at least. The longer you don't duel the quicker the rating goes down. A great pilot could make that up quickly with their expectational skill and should not fear this.

This makes the duel ratings relevant and current instead of irrelevant history which helps with keeping players engaged.

I believe duel rateings are not a competition, but rather a way to see how talented the opponent might be, so i must -1

I think the Monthly Duel Leagues suggestion is better. In past suggestions which proposed reducing anything from inactive vet characters, the argument was made that if and when these vets return, they would be disappointed and would quit. I think that's a valid point. It's losing a rank they worked years to reach. If it's the same ranking system, this rankles (no pun intended). If the ranking system itself is changed, there is less chance of disappointment.

This is not a bad suggestion, competitive titles have rank resets every season to ensure people are at the rating they deserve.

Do we want to prevent active players from getting a better rating because a random 10 year old player, who logs in once a year, "might quit" upon returning?

Keep their ratings intact, but reduce their visible rating. Kind of like a hidden MMR system.

this all can be reconciled by having 2 items to the duel ladder table:

Max rating achieved,
and
current rating

where the current rating is reset, the max achieved is permanent.. the duel ladder on the website shows both but is ordered by "current rating"

in this way, you could reset the "current ratings" as frequently as you want without the consequence of someone losing credit for previous achievements.

additionally.. the "max achieved" could include a time/date stamp.. this further solidifies how old the achievement was, giving the achievement a diminishing perceived value to the viewer.. "oh but that's from a long time ago.."

That's fine too, keeps things simple.
