This might be a little unnecessary, but it would be great if each station has a short paragraph (or two) on the Welcome page about the station's background info and other notable things.

That would be cool background info and a storytelling aid about the universe, I agree.

+1 - I like small details like this.

Speakin' of small details would be nice to have a derelict station in Edras I2, no dockin' bays on the radar and no flashin' space advertisments... historical reasons or whatever! :P
