-Proximity detonating energy weaps seem wierd to me. I would rather they just blow up after a certain time from being fired. Seems more natural, and adds a different type of weapon rather than just turning them into rockets without ammo. It would also introduce the aspect of keeping a fixed range away from your enemy while using energy weapons. Balance out the gauss' lethality at point blank ranges since people using this weapon will be more reluctant to let them get that close.

well , not the charge-cannon as it is today. its a nifty weapon as its both short and mid-range.. Its actually got a rather high rate of fire.

However, the L-charge one? ;)

A nice large port charged cannon should have quite a large blast radius. ~20m proximity and 40m blast radius:

Improved Gauss Cannon (L port):
15000 c
200 m/s
20 m proximity
40 m blast radius
Average (tachyon) autoaim
1500 dmg/sec charging time, max of 9000 damage (6 second charge)
Energy drain of 50/sec
Repeat rate maximum is 1/second.
Range: 850 m

True, that would be an awesome plasma cannon. It would force smaller ships to keep some distance between themselves and a Ragnarok sporting two of those things. Then buy turret upgrades so someone could man a turret covering the "top" hemisphere of the ship, and someone manning a turret covering the "bottom" hemisphere of the ship. Playing UTK2K4 gives one such good examples of multi-player vehicles and weapons.
