While it has been increased before, now that hive queen beams are a thing, it became lackluster.
Why?
Because you cannot use all three turret ports, no matter what.
Increasing it to a minimum of 62 is a must (to use 3 geminis), 66 is preferable. That means 2 geminis and a firecracker (grid use of 8 as far as i know).
70 would work better, but then would come the double capswarm golis flying around.
Equipping a mining beam onto any capship is not an excuse to make any capship defenseless, no matter its size.
And not everyone flies tridents, not mentioning golis are a hell a lot easier to maneuver around asteroids

this argument has happened many times over and generally to fierce opposition.

It's also worth noting that the Grid Power was nerfed specifically due to user request, after extensive discussion.

This also includes a post a couple pages in, which denotes a variety of Goliath nerf/buff threads from that period.

The primary reason for the original Gird Power nerf was that the Goliath's maneuvering, armor and weapon capabilities were viewed as making it too formidable.

Basically, the very same reason that "golis are a hell a lot easier to maneuver around asteroids" also makes them more combat-effective as well.

At the time when Grid was set to 55, there was also a post delineating all the three turret configurations that were still possible. I haven't checked, but I would be surprised if this had changed?

Or, if the argument is instead that you can't combine enough weapons with the Hive Queen Mining Beam, that would seem to be a tradeoff? Trade-offs are what this game is all about.

Basically, the argument for increasing the grid power would need to be made more thoroughly and in greater detail, considering how much thought went into nerfing it in the first place.

Properly outfitted, a Goliath is currently powerful enough to kill a leviathan.
