Radio Stations

Itani Radio, Serco Radio, NT Radio... you know, trade goods price updates every 15 minutes, breaking news from the front, advertisements for various organizations/guilds, an hourly skirmish report... and of course, some decent music to play the game by.
I think it'd be great, we'd just need community members willing to devote huge amounts of time to being DJs/newscasters or set up some kind of rotation system :P
(Heck, I'd do it myself right now- if I could just get my Quicktime Broadcaster working properly...)

We used to have a vendetta radio station. It was taken offline.

I'd do it. :D

I would... in the summer.

In the summer I could provide skirmish reports and news from the front. I'll probably still be flying around with the SDF as a pilot then.

Oh no...I've created a monster!!!

Seriously, good idea, Gem! (wink)

I could in the winter, spring/summer are busy for me though.
Apr 02, 2004 Skyfox link
Make there be a way for it to be turned off though.

I hadn't meant for it to be run as part of the game, I just thought that there's got to be some sort of streaming Ogg/Vorbis format so that you could put the file in the Vendetta directory and just open it whenever as an in-game music file...
Trying to get IceCast running on OSX, its giving me heck...

128Kbps ??? ... can't anyone think of us dialup sufferers? I'd be happy with a 22kbps stream :]

anyway I like the idea ...
Apr 03, 2004 roguelazer link
We had an icecast server, everybody connecting via winamp/xmms/blah. But now we don't.
Apr 03, 2004 romikq link
yeah problem is you need lots of upwards bandwidth if its gonna of any reasonable quality - with 1024/256 dsl and 128kbps quality, 3 listeners is max
Apr 03, 2004 roguelazer link
No you wouldn't. Try listening to a 22kb/s stream sometime.
Apr 04, 2004 Sheean link
A 22 kbps isn't even a stream anymore; you could just as well get a xylophone and randomly bash your head against it for better sound quality.

But there should be some way to get the sound more ingame; couse well... alsa kind of not works here and I don't have a 2nd soundcard...

actualy.. 24kbs stream is... reasonable. If all we're gonna be donig is broadcasting news. Even dialupies can play and listen at the same time.
Apr 04, 2004 roguelazer link
Why not just use TeamSpeak?
Apr 04, 2004 Urza link
No mac support yet

well, how would it work for all us unfortunate people with only 2 outputs?
i can't play without ingame sounds, it's not right. and besides, i don't think you'd be able to get enough content to warrant a radio station. a better idea would be a bot that broadcasts messages over the team channel ingame.

maybe a TriviaBot like they have in the Battle.net Blizzard Support channel?
