Could it be made so it is impossible to avoid the main page? This way we avoid such topics as:

Umm, let's not. Links to specific threads on IRC will no longer work this way. I consider these yokels who fail to check the main page/player list the lesser of two evils here.

However, it might be a good idea to advertise server status at the top of every page in red caps if the server is down/crashy/strained/... so that people who come to the forums to complain will read this as the very first thing at the top of the page.

Maybe a 'news ticker' or something?
