Ship Suggestions...?

May 25, 2004 HyperSpaz link
Ok folks! Here's the place to put down your favorite ship combos! Please make them innovating (NO...Tri-flare valks w/ heavy+f/c, also NO...Dual-flare Vults w/ heavy+f/c). My personnel favorite is...

Warthog:
Light Weapon: Sunflare
Heavy Weapon: Jackhammer
Engine: Medium
Battery: Fast Charge

This is a great combo due to high damage, pretty good maneuvreability (bleh, bad spelling), and ALOT of turbo power.

LOL, no offense but you pretty much have the same type of config as tri-flare valk, except on the Warthog. Dual rocket launchers doesn't make it any better. Now, for some REAL configs...

Warthog:
1x Advanced Gatling Turret
1x Gemini Missile Launcher
Heavy Engine
Heavy Battery

Raw, unstoppable power. At least until a Valk rams it.

Prometheus:
1x Advanced Gatling Turret
2x Gemini Missile Launcher
Heavy Engine
Heavy Battery

Pretty much same config as above, except much deadlier.

Hornet:
2x Phased Blaster
2x Gemini Missile Launcher
Medium Engine
Fast Charge Battery

Perfect chase ship for pirating. However, poor acceleration.

Centurion
1xgraviton blaster
Medium Engine
F-C Battery

Sadly, I don't have the grav, the medium engine OR the F-C battery yet. But I'm confident that despite the number of red tri-flare valks in the game, I will manage to level up to at least the grav part.

Warthog:
Gauss Cannon
Plasma Cannon
Heavy Engine
Heavy Battery

Wraith:
2x Flares
1x Adv Gat
Heavy/Heavy

Prometheus:
2x Flares
1x Adv Gat
Heavy/Heavy

Or, if you expect to fight a particulary slow target such as a centaur or another bus,

Hog:
Medium engine
Fast Charge
Tachyon blaster
Jackhammer or screamer. (depending on skill, and how much you are willing to take the energydrain of the screamers)

Prom:
Heavy Engine
Fast Charge battery
1x advanced gatling turret
1x sunflare
1x gemini

The FC means you cant do long continous bursts of agt, however if you need to shoot constantly, you do something wrong.
The combo of sunflare/gemini gives an interesting edge if somone expcts the gems. You can use the AGT to make people willingly fly into flares ;-)

Argh Sihaya! You stole my combo...again! >:(

Hog:
Med engine
Heavy Batt
Railgun
Jackhammer

is good too...

Prometheus: (inyerface)
Sunflare
Sunflare
AGT
Med/FC or Hvy/hvy

This one is fun. You taunt them with the gatling while reversing until they start getting reckless, then flip over to combat mode, unleash your sunflares and pepper them to death. FOV 90 helps.

Prometheus: (guardian)
Gauss
Gauss
Swarms
Med/FC

This is your classic support prommy, still very able to defend itself but works best in a squad as missile support. Mmm, swarmy. (note- you can easily substitute the gauss for railguns. but since i use the arrow keys, gauss work better for me)

Prometheus: (sledgehammer)
Sunflare
Sunflare
Jackhammer
Med/FC or Hvy/hvy

This one is simple. See a group of enemies scrapping? Charge FULL BLAST towards them and unleash. DO NOT stop turboing. Normally you can do this twice before they run you out of the sector.

Prometheus: (defender)
Flechette
Flechette
Prox mine
Whatever

This setup is an absolute bitch to get through. Flechettes spray just about everywhere discouraging your opponent from moving in. The prox mines are for the occasional "WTF!" when they take 2k damage without even noticing you dropped a mine :op

Prometheus: (botalot)
Gemini
Gemini
AGT
Whatever

AGT owns defenders, guardians, motherships and D2s. Assault class are harder to hit, so thats what the geminis are for. This also works great against enemy ragnaroks, wraiths, hornets.

The first combo is by far my favorite since it packs a huge punch but while being able to fend off 2 attackers (dont try 3. one will always get behind you if they have any brains and that hurts) unless they're very well organised. Reverse gear is your friend, but dont stick to it all the time. #3 however is the most fun :op

what about the beloved vulture that we are blessed with at level 4 combat!

Vulture:
Heavy Engine/FC batt

(1) 2x gauss. one bound as primary, the other as secondary
(2) rail/gauss/tachyon + one flare! if someone is hit by a flare, you can smother them with tachyons. depends on the other ships agility and how fast it recovers.
(3) rail + gemini is also fun. gemini makes that annoying beepy noise that makes some opponents unable to concentrate. if opponent turbos, they're traveling in a predictable direction for a split second-->hurry and shoot rail!
(4) 2x flare vult. nice if you're a good rocketeer... (I'm not one. but I've had great fun doing defensive flaring with Scuba, Katarn, Jm...) **Edit: I just noticed "no dual flare vults" in HyperSpaz's post lol...

Vult (slow ship killer)
Heavy Engine (why would you ever want a med for fighting??? It's good for running and chasing not for sticking around and winning.)
Fast Charge Battery
Tachion
Tachion

This is good against slow ships that like to eat lots of tachs and tach 8k damage per second. Not as good against fast ships that tend to only get hit with one volley at a time. (Note all ships posted except havestmoue's are of the slow 'I like to get killed by tachs' except UD's inyerface prom with the Hvy engine and Arolte's Gat/Gemini hog those two tend to not like dying)

Vult (fly swatter variety)
Heavy Engine
Fast Charge Battery
Gauss
Gauss

This is good for killing valks, and other vults (and cents but they can be gotten with either set up). Specially nice for tri-flare valks since you can just stay out of flare effective range until you have a hit or two on them, then get in close and shoot them while focusing on dodging their rams, i.e. making sure the flares don't go towards you so they blow up instantly doing far more damage to the shooter than to you.

Warthog:
Screamer
Flechee, sry for the miss spelling (Soon to be Gauss)
Heavy Engine
Heavy Battery (I have Med. now but hoping for Heavy soon)

I really like Akkisti's hog setup. only thing I would change was the engine (to heavy)... rail/jack hog is nice, but suffers against 3xgauss valk (and perhaps other high agility + energy setups) when distance is close.

I've also occasionally considered changing the rail to gauss.

Ragnarok:
Tri-flare
Dual-Jackhammers
Heavy/FC (any combo is fine)

Ragnarok:
Tri-Flechette
Dual-Swarms
Any

To tell the truth, any ship with flechette's is ultimate for hurassing and defending, much better than a AGT. And my first combo is a one hit KO. And Dual-swarms is nigh invincible. I remember we has a war in s40 today, I was in a hog. I docked, took out my Dual Swarm ragnarok and before the players could figure out what was going on, they were dead. Good times.
May 31, 2004 Arolte link
Heh, I'll tell you what, HyperSpaz, I'll duel you in s40 or wherever with my AGT. We'll see how your popcorn gun config will handle then. How 'bout it?

=)
Jun 01, 2004 harvestmouse link
mmm, the "skirmish" you wanted detailed that you didn't want any deaths :D... so don't be mad if I killed ya, cuz you were swarming.

after a certain player figured things out... many rails made contact with that rag. and did the swarms touch her? muahahaha nein.

but that rag was a good station camper.

Hehe...ahhhhhhh fug. Ok Arolte, I understand you'll lay the pwn on my ass.

And harvestmouse, I was referring to a rail, and I don't think I've ever faught rails hehe!

Prom;
Large Port: JackHammer
Small Port: 2 x Rails
Engine: Heavy
Battery: Heavy

Sounds dumb, but I used to take this ship out for a laugh from time to time. The idea is; You harass people from afar with the rails, if they come in close they get a Jackhammer in the face (the proms armour can handle the ram), and then as they start running, rail them... A Proms got decent enough cargo space too :-)

i'm with n00b on this one...

I forgot one of my ragnaroks...

The Lazy Boy
Ragnarok:
Small Ports: 3 Gemini's
Large Ports: 2 Swarms
Any/Any

This only works if you get pros off guard or if you hit n00bs. But very fun, as the title suggests, requires little/no effort to pilot.
Jun 05, 2004 Eldrad link
OOOO tons of fun ship I forgot about:
Rag
Hvy engine
FC Bat
Gat x2 (not advanced)
Tachs x3

Just don't let anyone get too close to you... this thing does amazing damage per second... and is pretty good at conserving energy if you fire it right. Put the gats in one firing group and the tachs in the other use the tachs at long range, the gats at medium and both if someone gets up close.
