Faction system adjustment

Jun 05, 2004 Cam link
Hello again.

We all know it's only temporary and it will be balanced by release time.
In the meantime can i suggest that not just kills but hits effect standing as well.
much like the way attacking damaged bots will get you partial points.

yeah that's my idea

cheers

no :(.

for the moemnt you have the chance for people that annoy you or are taking advantag eof their standing to get them to almost death and let them be killed by a bot or at least get them to run.

Dont take this card from us, its already a big enough jungle out there :(

cheers

Rene: what you described is exactly what i want to prevent, lately i've had a rash of run ins with pirates or PKers who either run away after damaging me for fear of lost docking privileges, or who continuously damage me down to red and hope a bot gets me, or in one circumstance ram me with his vult and wingbug on me, causing my standing to drop, then proceeding to kill me when i undocked.

If you are not admired by the sector you're in the only thing you can do is run, it's not fair, but it will be worked out.
My thoughts are that this would stop people from randomly attacking other players, because if they launch a rocket at you and bring you down to 50% then they should lose about half of what they would by killing you, meaning they would be under the admire level at that point, and you could fight back without worrying about standing

cam...

the thing is, if you arent protected and you get hassled by pirates that are protected, then you can at least try to get them off. Because escaping in the tradeships is far from easy to do.

And I dont like to be defenseless, beats the point of trading.

Rene: i don't understand what you have against it, if you're not admired, attacking the admired pirate would not be a good idea.

he wouldn't care if he died, because it would lock you out, so i don't see why damaging him would help you.

I am not attacking him... I am defending me against his attacks.

Its already hard enough to survive from these pirates, and now you want to make it even harder. Now you want to take away our only way of getting them killed without losing standing.

If you implement your idea then the only chance that we have is just sit there and be killed... If we fight back we loose standing. If we run we get blown up completely. So it will be a loose loose situation always...

Now we can ge tthem to 5% and dump him in between a group of bots ...

cheers

If they are going to kill you anyway; it's obvious they don't care about standing anyway.

Personally i would prefer a system more like UO's. If you damage a target then your rating is nulified for a set period of time (5 minutes, 10, until you leave the area of space claimed by the station?) during that time you are considered "criminal" in the area around the station in question. You cant dock, and anyone can attack/kill you as if you were "criminal" If you exit the area and return, or wait out your alotted time without actually killing anyone, your reputation reverts to what it was prior to your attack. Each time you damage someone the timer restarts. if you kill someone the regular penalties apply. A simple colored flag in the target info box could tell you what the persons reputation was with the station in question., (green for positive, yellow for neutral, red for hostile, put a * by it if it's just a temporary rating that is on a timer)

What this would allow for.
1) the person who causes the first damage can now be killed without penalty, traders can now fight back. Unfortunately a trader has to wait until he/she actually takes damage and refrain from firing first in order to remain safe from reputation hits.

2) you would now be able to come to the aid of someone under attack by pirates. since the person who attacked is now a 'criminal' until he either, a) kills the target or b) flees the area; anyone can come to the defense of the person he attacked. all of a sudden the INM, the SDF and various other mutual defense groups become viable again.

3) if you accidentally damage someone your reputation doesnt take a permanant hit, but you have to flee the area to avoid everyone else having a free license to kill you (you really should be watching where you are shooting anyhow)

4) exploiters to fly in front of people's who were admired in a sector shots at bots and take damage from them. Then kill the botter, and if the botter fights back and wins lock the botter out of the sector permanently.

Eldrad: Pardon my language but only a real asshole would do that (Sorry for language).

Heh. Heheh.

Yes the timed thing sounds good, and I'm sure the devs have a plan for it
my suggestion is just another "quick fix" for the meantime because i thought it might not be that complicated to introduce given the way the points are distributed for botting.

Really what my idea should stop is the needles attacks, most of the pirates/PKers will now attack, and back off if they receive the warning message, meanwhile the victim is stranded damaged and a prime target for bots or players in other sectors where they may not have good standing.

Think like a triflare comes at you, one shot would do quite a bit of damage, and thus cause quite a drop in standing, so chances are players wont fly around firing rockets at people right away, they'll want to do a test shot (as little damage as possible) to make sure they aren't going to lose too much standing.

Rene: I get you now, but that method of defense wouldn't help you in bot free sectors, and in sectors with bots i would assume they would just keep attacking you. With my idea if you spend the time to build your standing you will be pretty safe. I know it doesn't help those without good standing, but like i said "quick fix"
the fully implemented system will no doubt have a way of protecting those without standing.

Sheean: the point is they're not going to kill you, a lot of players are using their standings to annoy others by attacking them and hoping the victim fights back.

HyperSpaz: i agree, and that doesn't say much for those who do it.

Eldrad: In the new universe botting will mostly be done farther outside of a station controlled space, hence reputation will be unaffected out there, only the very basic bots should be anywhere near stations.

logically no self repsecting space station is going to allow pirate-bots near them. I expect to see missions like: "there is a pirate hangout int he asteroid shoals of sector 176, we will pay a bounty of <blah> for each pirate of skill <yadayada> that you destroy. You will be paid when you return to the station here in sector 94 with gun camera footage of the pirates exploding into atomic subparticles"
