Well, after months of work by the designers and long waits for the judging to occur, the SDF Ship Contest has ended and as promised and designed, we of the SDF and of the community have picked the best of the best designs to submit to you for consideration ingame.

I know that you have probably read the thread before (I know FM has) but just to reiterate; the contest has spanned several months and has included approximately 30 contestants and 6 judges (4 voted on the winner)

So, without further ado, I present to the developers of Vendetta, the SDF Ship Contest winners, Arolte and Skyfox!

Arolte:

Raven Fighter--With the invention of the Valkyrie, the Serco have long since struggled to create a formidable fighter to counter such devastating attacks from the Itani. The Raven is their answer to the problem. With the agility of a Vulture and the firepower of a Warthog combined, this fighter packs a mean punch. However, due to lack of advanced technology the hull strength remains moderate as a compromise.

Role: Strike Fighter
Hull: 8000
Capacity: 4 crates
Agility: High
Weapons: 1x Large Port, 1x Small Port

Skyfox:

PS: This concern was raised by some players, we understand that with Release on it's way that introducing new craft at this time isn't high on your priority list. We were hoping you might consider these for post-release introductions along with other items.

I've asked Incarnate about a month or two ago whether the non-special ship models would get an overhaul by final release and he said no. The current ships will remain by final release. So I'm guessing we probably won't see any new ships until months after final release. The "expansion pack" for the frigate is evidence that surprises will be coming in the long term for us.

Thanks for those who voted on my ship. It's been fun creating it and I plan on adding more details and reworking it (maybe even a 3D render) when I have more time on my hands. I'd be flattered if Waylon would have the slightest bit of consideration for adding my ship in the game, but I doubt it. I'm sure they've got a huge list of ideas and designs to implement already later on.

Congratulations to the winners, and great work to everyone! It was a lot of fun watching this contest progress, and I was quite impressed by all of the entries.

It's true, unfortunately, that I'm not going to have time to include any new ship models in the final release. With any luck, however, I might be able to add these at some point down the line.

One request... I don't suppose someone could send me a zip containing all of the ship renders, and whatever models the artists have posted? :)

I'll try to talk to Arolte and Skyfox about that since their the only ones with all the renders and models. I only have access to the web posted ones.

As for the wolverine model, that was made quite a while ago, I still have the file, but i've lost the textures. Format??

Well, there is no model for mine to speak of. It was all made in Illustrator. I'm still working on it so I don't want to submit anything just yet. I'd hate to spam your inbox with hundreds of revisions of the Raven, so I'll save it for later until I'm completely satisfied. Hopefully by then I'll have a 3D model of it, or at the very least an isometric view to better show how it would look like. There's no rush, is there?

I have models and shots of my unentered ship if ya want them. :P

Should the non-winners send in their suff? hehe

If you don't have a model (or the textures), it's not a big deal, I was mostly just concerned with the renders. And yes, I'd like a copy of the non-winners stuff too. :)

Yay! Can I just send them to vlad@guildsoftware.com ?

Yes!

I have a concept for a... gargantuan... carrier (and its carried fighter), but I was too busy with school to make it in time for the ship design contest. Shall I make up a model and send it to you?

Pyro: I'd say that if you're bored I'd love to see a rendor myself but don't do it just on my part, but if for some reason you do rendor it, I'd love to see it.

Hmmm... I think I have my sketches somewhere, so I'll see about scanning those in first, and then making a model...

Well, if he wants our designs.. *hurrys to make 1 that doesn't looks like crap*

Updated!! Raven now has a rear view. Applied some minor tweaks as well.

I'll be working on adding a rear view and landing gears to the Pelican next.

Loadouts coming soon, if time permits. Enjoy.

Arolte, how long would you say it took you to create that ship? truely awsome work
Jun 18, 2004 Arolte link
While I realize your response was probably used to make your name dominate the "last reply by" field of the Suggestions Forum once again, I will nevertheless answer your question. I'd say it took about a month to create if I had worked on it nonstop. I've had the concept of it down for a while now (February maybe?), but I've only worked on it for a few minutes at a time at first. It wasn't until it eventually evolved into something worthwhile that I decided to put hours of work into it. Thanks for the complement.
