3000m warp range and leveling

Hi
I would like to suggest a lower warp range as for new people it is a long way to reach 3000m, I suggest that if space infront is clear then you can war or reduce the 3000m into 1000m....

Leveling takes a long time, to reach level 1 you have to have 2000 points and 2000 credits in my opinion it is a bit much, maybe to lower the first level to 1000 and 500 credits and then move up with 2500 and 1000 credits.....

hope this is a workable idea

game is great

I second this notion. i think that right out of station we should be able to warp.

Though this would be nice for casual traveling, it would completely prevent non-consensual Player vs Player combat, which though by definition you don't want to happen to you is very important for the long-term game play.

No. Just no. This would kill PvP combat completely.

It is a tough argument. On the one hand, travel can be tough. But on the other, the 3k distance is already a little SHORT for PvP engagements. Players can run from a fight pretty easily and lose their persuers.

Any more, and it's too much of a pain to travel.
Any less, and escaping will be a piece of cake. Combat will basically cease to exist.

I could see 5k, but I would hate to travel that to warp.

No to first poster. Just a nice, flat, no. The warp range has been proven good. And 2000xp is not much at all- something like 25 bots.

ermm I killed over 200 bots and recently got my level 1 ability to upgrade so 25 bots is a bit of untruth...

3k warp is much when you leave station to go to another sector, this what I have noticed in first post is not to run away from a fight but merely from station to warp to another sector...

Doesn't matter if all you want is to warp to another station, you could still use the ability to run from ANY fight thusly eliminating a fundimental principle of Vendetta (it's not safe).

*pssst* if you kill 100 bots in a row in the noobie combat mission you will be at level 4.

3000m is ok for me ;-)

Here's a quick how-to-level for beginners:

- Get the free ship ;-)
- move out of the station, switch to physik mode
- start some movement practice, fly between the asteroides, circle them, strafe around.
- try to chase the Nation Guardians. But dont bump into them ;)
- dock at the station, take the beginner combat mission.
- If you do the mission do not forget to pick up the scrap metal or the cargo the bots drop. 6 x scrap metal gives extra 3000 credits. Even if you're hull is in good condition, bring back the cargo!
- As soon as you have the money go get a better ship. The EC-ships will do fine if your levels are too low. Also go for better battery and weapon AS SOON AS YOU CAN afford them. So you'll not stumble any longer in the 3000m range ;)

Phaserlight: It takes a little more than 100 bots in a row. I had started (and aborted) the combat training mission twice, then I ran through, and I got somewhere around 122 kills in a row, mostly DenTek and Artemis even from the beginning, before I hit Combat 4 and it ended the mission. And I was Combat 2 when I started it the last time.

That said, I think the levelling isn't that bad.. And while the convenience of the 3k range is a little low, I agree that it -is- pretty short to travel, once you get past the early ships.

Ah, suck it up... learn to live with what they give you. I, for one, did not find this too challenging, and accepted it as something that's there. However, it does seem slightly annoying, and the proposition of maybe reducing some of these curves could be in the best interest of the game.

I don't really see the need in the 3000 meter run to be able to warp

Maybe if the station was throwing up a anti-warp field for 3000 meters aroudn the station then yes... and if a ship was equiped with an anti-warp field projector yes...

but just 3000meters from anything, i dont see the need in it.

johnathan, you think its bad now, when it was first implimented there was a 15 second "no control change" timer that you had to sit through after you reached 3000m

actually the 3000 meters just seems long at first, once you get about level 3 or 4 and have the heavy battery and some faster ships it really isnt much of a problem at all.

When the failsafe gets hacked off your warp drive and you find yourself little more than a smear on the side of a roid you'll see the reason.

the point is that 3k is a lot when you have a beginners ship, it took me 15 minutes to reach 3k free of everything before I could warp and I had a cargo mission with me that I would get a bonus if (IF) I could do it within 5 minutes, even the 12 minute mission I was not able to get and that was just three hops (without hitting any ion storms) and that is near impossible to get in a starter ship....

yeah I should buy better ship but that would be hard when you try to get credits together to level up and hitting those bots hey I tried, I got 1 before I got killed... arcade mode works fine for me the other it seems nothing works for me (joystick)...

but my most annoying point is that 3k warp clear field, make it 1k if people think someone runs from fight...

I am not moaning, I think game is good but I just have a problem with this 3k warp barrier

I think you should have done the tutorial. And maybe read the F1 help. Because 15 minutes is crazy. If you use the turbo (tab), I can see it taking 30 seconds. Maybe a minute if you're not sure which direction to go in. But it doesn't take anywhere -near- 15 minutes.

What Roguelazer said.
Most of the time, when you enter a sector, you're put near one of the edges of the mass field.. Even the stations tend to be towards one side, instead of flat in the middle.

I've had to spend a -couple- of minutes before, because I had to look around, but never had I needed more than about 3 minutes to get out, unless I turned and went further into the field. Which is really hard to do by accident, because the bits of matter are pretty obvious if you look around before thrusting.
Oct 02, 2004 Hoax link
It actually sounds like he may not have found the turbo key yet. 15 minutes in any direction should put you lost in deap space...
Oct 02, 2004 octopusfluff link
I missed mention of the turbo key when I went through the tutorial, and it took me 2 minutes of thrusting in the free bus to get to 3k. :)
