Trade Journal idea

I thought it might be a good idea to have a simple trade journal feature for those of us who do trading. Right now I'm actually writing it all down in an excel spread sheet to figure it all out. We need something like that in game. Something where you can easily query what a station has for sale and download it to the journal, then compare it verses other stations you have visited to help you establish new trade routes. It should allow you to timestamp so you know when the prices were at that amount on your last visit.

My only concern with this type of thing is that it may unbalance trade by making it too easy to trade. So possibly putting a high price tag on it so you have to purchase it or having a skill level requirement to get it could work.

Ooo, something like an ingame stock ticker (charge per use, perhaps?)... That'd be pretty neat...

I think this should be the undertaking of a trade guild. The members would report to a main guild website and it would encourage players to work together to cover the entire universe. I'm constructing a worksheet on the items available in the UIT and I'd love to join up with other traders who have coverage of the Serco and Itani systems.

Trade guild can help some of this, but some in-game facility is still needed to actually take the notes on. Otherwise you're forced to either scribble everything down on a pad of paper or have a second computer handy to enter the information.

Alt-tab works... Rather well actually.
But I would appreciate it in game. If, at the very least, something that lists on all planets visited what they sell, and at what price.

I can't spell...

I've been using alt tab to swich programs while sitting in a station to check my spreadsheet of trade items.

Listing all items could get tedious as some stations sell over 30 items. The font would have to be pretty small or the chart very large with scroll bars. And prices are dynamic so they will change every time someone sells an item so that feature would be out of date very quickly.

However I have heard Ray bounce around a few ideas for a personal note pad but alas, bug fixes get priority so I'll have to give the standard reply Soon(tm).
