Different Views in cutscenes

Nov 07, 2004 Aramanu link
Erm, basicly alot of the immersion is lost imo when the "jump" and "warp" cutscenes happen, im not sure if its the angle of the camera or what, but i would like to "jump" and "warp" in 1st person mode instead of those 3rd person cutscenes.

So im suggesting maybe different views when those cutscenes happen, especially 1st person, maybe even with the HUD still visible? :)

I agree, it would be cool if we could see the stars warping past us into lines or what not. I like the 1st person suggestion

Maybe a Star Wars-like hyperspace tunnel featuring a third person view from behind your ship, and then that can transition into your rocketing into the new sector. Something interesting and MOVING to add some visual eye candy.

Moving stuff=extra processor overhead=longer load times=bad.

Or you could make it an optional prerendered client side looping movie file depicting space moving by (or something similar). Or even just do the 3D wormhole effect as an optional effect.

You could just make it slide the FOV really high so it looks like everything is peeling away.

i think that star field going past is definitely feasible exercise on computers of today, considering Elite did it in 80s on 3.5mhz machine with 48k or memory and 6912 bytes video ram.

I agree with Aramanu. I touched upon something similar here http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/6514#84783 but as I was moving off topic in that thread so I didn't expand on it.
As for increasing server load I see there is no reason for it. All that is required is a client side annimation, either pre-rendered or rendered on the fly. As far as the server is concerned the ship has just moved sectors, same as normal.
At the moment moving between sectors and systems looks very similar. Maybe there could be two different annimations one for sectors, rapidly moving space debris, planets etc. And another for Systems, I world particuley favour a 'Stargate SG1' style trasition, that would be cool.

i'd prefer instead of loading screen and bar down the bottom a constant animation on the screen of stars going past you really fast and after transfer is complete slowdown to new system. make transition seemless so to speak.

I like this idea a lot. Let me hear the drives whine, start the transition animation and then come out smoothly.

If however, this doesn't seem worth it, then a minimum sector jump time of, oh, maybe 5 seconds would be nice.

I get like a 1/2 sec transition and I've not yet managed to read one of the tips on a sector jump.

bump for devs

Ya know, this is a wicked idea, after the news system, because where else atm are hints suposed to go? A flashy jump effect instead of the usual loading screen would be a welcome feature IMHO - You could even loop the animation/render, so those with slower connections/procs would get longer screens, as they do now....

I heartily endorse this product and/or service.

*bunp* for the Dev's

Yeah, I've been thinking about this idea for a few days now, someone beat me to the punch with posting it... I know when I first started playing the game, I would have been a LOT more impressed to actually see the warping in my own ship... I don't think this would be a hard thing to change, as someone already said, it would all be clientside.

As far as those tips, MOST of the time, the loading is so quick that you dont' have time to read those tips at all, at least for me.

Devs, get on it!!!! This would be very attractive to new players and vets alike.

if the loading time were stretched just slightly, it would be more fair for people that don't have such a fast connection too. When you have someone in eurasia trying to follow someone playing from the US... the US player gets ahead way too swiftly just with sector warps.
