PvP XP problems

Nov 07, 2004 Eldrad link
The XP penalties for player vs player combat totally discourage any PvP. I was told I would get a negative 200 XP hit for killing a 2/2/1/1 player when I was 2/2/1/4. Three trade levels really aren't that significant. There should be large ranges where both people gain some XP if they win otherwise no one will every want to fight. You should get a much larger bonus for killing someone of higher level than yourself than someone of lower level, but if you're not picking on a newb you shouldn't lose XP.

(This is particularly annoying for me because I'm fairly low level but want to fight people who are higher levels, and there is the /duel feature, but it doesn't work with groups at the moment, and it doesn't have any effect on the game what so ever).

Yea... I was threatened with a -400 (or something similar) Combat XP hit for fighting Eldrad (outside of a duel). He may be lower levels than I am, but he certainly is a better pilot.

Yuck.

Ugly.

Bad.

Why have a MMORPG at all if you don't want characters to interact?

surely devs didn't do this on purpose :)

I'd also like to point this out, though I don't know that there's anything that can be done. I got attacked by some random Bus during a duel, when I fired a warning shot, I got the -900 xp warning. He kept going. SO I dropped him down to the red. Still no change. Finally, in the interests of the duel, I had to just blow him up. Is there a way to keep these rules from protecting people with a death wish?

i agree fully with Celebrim.

home nations are protected for a reason, to shield new players basicly. there is no point in having a pvp XP penality if this were carried out in a more firmer fassion.

it is the player's fault for leaving his/her home nation's protected space prematurely.

i don't know about you guys, but if a bus, or a 2-2-2-2 is going to fire on me first, their ship will blow up in a nanosecond. i don't like the idea of them taking shots while you can't defend yourself fearing -900 xp. all this is encouraging, is PVP based people maxing their levels beyond what's required (12/12/12/12 or higher) to compensait for this XP point hit. i'm currently doing that myself.

as Eldrad stated this is problematic durning group fighting. this further discourages PVP, and large skirmishes amongst players. i bet it's annoying for CTC players aswell.

the solution i believe to protect new players; is to guard the wormholes inside of nations. this XP hit is highly unnecessary when it can be fixed by this.

this is deffinitly one thing that i think needs to go.

During this weekend I had to take several -700 and -900 hits ( I think I dropped over 4000 points total ) Due to (*cough* clueless *cough*) newbies with vultures and busguns who decided to protect their convoy.

They are annoying enough to actually hurt you, especially when you're busy fighting the assaults, gathering cargo, watching out for Niki, and then that pesky sting comes around?

However, being penalized 700 xp for killing somone in grey space, around a convoy? what?
*Sighs*

Then again, some other Itani newbie in a bus was in UIT space, and decided it was rocking fun to attack my vult. Three rails later and a polite request to back off, and he did so. Kudos. (though I admit, I don't want a -900 standing with UIT. nor do I want -900 combat xp again ..)

hopefully this silly xp penalty thing is dealt with. it's already silly enough that an entire army of bots chases you around if you wanna blockade a station in the grey zones, i can understand it in nation home space but in grey areas all this nerfing is incredibly annoying
