<apology upfront for length... it got a little out of hand>

i thought i'd chime in also and say that danger should definitely be added back into the game.

i was going to comment against no-fire zones but then i thought about it and they makes sense. they make up for what most players would never do and can't do consistently. They keep n00bz and others from being killed incessantly after "spawning." the guarding could be done by players but that never worked before. the no-fire is only right near the station just to give you a little breathing room.

ion storms are quite useful and a nice random element. in fact, it balances the infiniboost. sometimes you can escape via running sometimes you can't. especially if the chaser knows there is an ion storm in your path, he goes around it, beats you to the wh and waits on you...

a lot of the gripes seem to be the result of being less effective when alone. if you team up with someone then things like infiniboost don't matter as much. find a mark, threaten him, and block his exit via your buddy (or three). catch miners near asteroids. real hard to run while facing an asteroid.

i'm all for added realism. i like the weather aspect. i also like making up for what would be realistic where players cannot or would not do the deed i.e. guarding stations. keep in mind that you can kill someone near a station it's just that you will have to fight the guards there as well. it's not insta-god-death.

teaming up will up the anti a lot.
i kind of agree about the money but then i don't play enough to make 13M creds. so it is still a little dangerous for me to die more than a few times a night - i'm only 3/4/2/2/2. and you have to be able to withstand multiple deaths or everything becomes too risky. death is a minor hindrance when working alone. it really sucks if you are participating in ctc or some other team activity. when you die you leave your team one man down, making it harder for them to accomplish whatever was the goal.

i'd like to make the request for more things that require teamwork. make the community act like one instead of pretending this is a standalone game with a chat room (where's the faction only channel?). make being alone harder (which they have in some ways). i see guild members off alone a lot. Spider... if you want to make something more dangerous, make flying alone more dangerous. attack folks that are by themselves. this gives more reason to join a guild or at least travel in groups. there should be less of a restriction/penalty on killing guild members that are lower rank than you - actually i don't like the lower rank penalty but i think that this is a good compromise. guild members should always have backup. at the very least the other guild members should feel a sense of vengeance over a member's death. kill a guild member and expect to be hunted by the higher level members. how's that for dangerous? if you belong to a trade guild the higher out the hit. we don't really need in game bounties. we can communicate it well enough over channel 100 and get the word out. and paying for a hit is always a risky endeavor. no auto payments are necessary. meet in an empty sector and give money. if you get robbed in the process ... well, thems the costs of doin' bidness.

and for those that say forced teamwork is unrealistic... go try and make $3M in the real world without some help. that's why they always say it's all about who you know...

we need better role playing...

Someone else in some other thread (yeah, I couldn't make it anymore vague ;) suggested a Hive Queen Assualt mission, with a Hive Queen approaching some station. How's that for a team event? Just have Hive Queens visit random stations and fight everything present there. After all the bots, NPCs and players are killed, it could wander around a bit and take off.

This can happen like once every day, or perhaps twice to accomodate different time zones. Like with ion storms, it is only temporary, so you would not be locked up in your station indefinitely (and you can still leave and try to escape to safety). N00bs locked in can use the channels to request assistance, great way to make contact with the community :)

Depending on the number of online players, the Hive Queen could get guards. But no spawning.

Interesting idea, by the way.

It's clear that hive queens can make more hive queens, else they'd all be gone by now.

It might be amusing to make the frequency of hive queen assaults vary depending on how successful people were in driving them off - with upper and lower limits, of course.

The idea being that hive queens whose programming encourage them to attack populated sectors would pop up every so often, and if one attacked and survived, it would be likely any hive queens constructed by it would be similarly inclined to attack.

It's not really a good idea(not useful, practical, more fun, etc) to have an actual dynamic system behind this, just a simple rule that if a hive queen 'wanders off' without being killed, the next hive queen attack in that sector will happen sooner.
