automated defenses and ships

what I mean is, like getting a robot turret to shoot for you put on your ship, and A.I. comrads and such. huh, huh?

I think ships shouldn't have bot turrets at all. Perhaps capital ships, but even then I think they should only be bot operated if there are no other human players to dock and do it.

As far as bot comrades, I do agree. I think we should be able to buy bots, mostly unarmed and weak, but i suppose for a few thousand more credits it could be armed.

I had a similar idea the other day but in regards to trade missions. Wouldn't it be great if you wanted to do a large trade run from say Dau to Corvos but there was no one available to help out as escorts, to be able to purchase or "hire" a single or multipule (depending on how much you want to spend) automated drone s to fly escort for you. They could only be used as a defensive mechanism, NOT for ambushing or any kind of pirating. Also, the same sort of system could be implemented is someone wanted to go mining in a dangerous section of space. This would allow the player that is not into grouping as much or if they play at weird times durring the day and can't find anyone to help them out. The technology already exists in the game univers and I dont' see why it's not already being implemented.

Also, for pirating, I dont' see why you couldn't fly down to corvos and hire some bots to do some assault missions on convoys or even for hunting hive bots. These bots don't have to be uber in any way but I think a gradual progression between level of fighting capability(your cpl) vs. station faction standing vs. price, to get better and better bots.

Additionally, if and when a crafting system is installed, I think it would be really nice to be able to craft your own support bots for all of the above and also for assisting in mining.

I'm sure some of this has already been thought of and probably discussed already, I didn't look deep enough into the old post to see for sure. =)

the CtC 'Sports and NPC 'Sports should have an automated top or buttom turret, they need atleast a slight chance against their enemies and since they are larger ships it makes sense. this way they can fight why flying away at the same time making it more exciting for the chaser.

except the whiney chasers who just want an easy kill, but they don't deserve the easy kill so therefore everything is still in order

I also agree with johnhawl218 and Dank on escort bots for defensive purposes only.

They would only attack aggressors if I targeted and fire back.
Obviously, I would suffer the consequences of their actions if I fire in a no-fire zone also. They should be relatively expensive depending on the level of defensive fire power you desire between stations. This would also give us something valuable to use our currently useless excess cash on.

Must spend money in our current capital based economy to stimulate development of new devices to destroy enemies in cleverly destructive ways, new ships to pilot and explore undiscovered areas in this huge system of space we inhabit.
hint: hidden wormholes and stations again. Capitol ship powered by beating a dead horse. Maybe just one sector where roids are actually in motion around something like they tend to do for reason. I know the physics of our system probably isn't capable of the beautiful trajectories needed for these navigation challenging obstacles. Just twirling at the moment it appears. stupid lazy rocks! Want to blow them up at least?

....oh yeah, back to bots.
Anybody should be able to purchase attack bots to help take on hive bots. I know, I could use the help when they gang up you.

If your a pirate, you can attack lone traders or if you want the big loot, take the chance and attack the trader and escorts yourself if your so bad-ass. Well, the pirate could purchase cargo drones to be able to collect all the loot if successful, which they would have to defend en-rout back to a station.

In a storm, its not that difficult to reach the exit safely. So don't fire while fleeing and you escorts will just follow along.

Someone also mentions a stun beam for pirates. This could also be used for anyone for defensive purposes. It could be an altered version of the rail gun, so you still would have to be able hit your target, but not to easy if pirates use them on me. We always want new weapons, but darn never enough ports for the perfect
ship. Repair beam and Mining beams are excellent. KEEP EM COMING. I Must have latest technology to keep me interested in playing. Who doesn't get excited when something is available at stations? >8 )

Keep it dangerous out there on the long halls and certain sectors as it should be when you dare venture out your safe zones.

Stay alert!
Use your radar and always check who is in the sector your entering (U key). If you don't, its your tuff luck a pirate snuck up on you while in cruise control playing with your pleasure robot in the cargo hold...he,he.

The turret idea would effectually be great, but it would require precious dev time to perfect. Bots already exist in game with increasingly impressive abilities. If its not to difficult implement their abilities to serve us, please do.

forgive me rambling, I was just inspired to reply to the great suggestion and got carried away.

I'm perfectly fine with AI turrets as long as they're _much_ inferior to human-controlled guns.
Nov 30, 2004 johnhawl218 link
if they suck what's the point of having them at all? (AI Turrets)
Dec 01, 2004 CrazySpence link
AI transports need turrets. they are just targets without them due to the fact that they make a centaur seem agile. One day when we hopefully can buy those uber transports it'd be nice if we had that turret too because it'd be futile to try and turn and fight someone in something with the mass of a small moon. turret fire would be easy to dodge but! the act of the enemy dodging is what allows the transports to achieve speed to escape to warping distance. it isnt likley someone would actually die from the turret fire unless of course they were a masochist it would just prevent turbo speed over take as the enemy would have to keep letting go of turbo to dodge.

In rebuttal, piracy would still be very possible, you'd just have to suprise the transports or come from an angle outside the firing cone, so don't fret pirates you'll still get your chance your prey would just also have a chance to save themselves

hmm, well I think there needs to be a better way to catch people first, before you start adding things that protect traders. As it stands, infiniboost is about the best you can hope for, since I could probably hit them while they're running, but I usually can't get more than a couple hits, (hence I have to catch them before).

It's really tough to fly parallel to someone without increasing the distance between you, and once you choose your boosing direction, that's it. Give us specialized engines before adding this kind of stuff.
