new role: space janitor

now i know there are lots of different careers to have in this game. pirate, miner, trader, ctc, etc. but i think a good one to add would be janitor.

you would have to travel around in your 'mop bucket 1' and clean various stations. you have to buy your cleaning supplies at other stations, and optimizing this will not only save you money, but save you time. and the stations will pay you more money if you can do it faster, in fact, the other janitors are all in competition with you.

unless of course you all form a labor union so you can stop the horrific price-war and stick it to the man.

anyways, each station will require cleaning and the quicker you are the better. but you still have to do a thorough job. also you need to have information and supplies to deal with a variety of space-borne diseases that reside in the toilets of the interstellar space stations. if someone has missed the toilet, you need to clean it up. if someone threw up in the loading bay or the airlock, you need to go in there and ensure the safety of the ship by preventing any virii or bacteria from escaping. so be sure to bring your jani-scan unit on your ship, scan the station, and get the appropriate disinfecting beams from the biocom research facilities.

BioCom, your trusted name in disinfectant technology, since 2350.

This is in the classic vein of games like 'janitor joe' and I feel would add a lot more 'content' to the game.

------------

Soon there could be addon expansions. When you reach a certain level you can do more 'maintenance' stuff. Every station has a lot of windows, and obviously they need washing. But in space, its much more difficult to wash windows. You need to grab a cleaning-fluid gun and an air-blow drygun (both large slots). What, you thought robots did all this?

After what happened with the hive bots, do you really think they are gonna trust robots to wash the windows? I dont think so.

and dont get me started on trash disposal.

"and dont get me started on trash disposal"

imagine a convoy of transports carrying the contents of a station's septic system out into gray space to be dumped... another faction, however, needs fertilizer for their hydroponic farms... raiding parties are dispatched...

it's CaptureTheCrap!

omg..... I don't know what to say. just.... LOL dang this is insane. Ok ok. I don't think players would want to clean stations for money. It just seems a lil tedious. Then again it would get away from the standard fight, trade, explore. I am definately in favor of npc's doing this though. Just a little something to liven up the universe. The richer the owner of the station the cleaner it would be. We would see more npc trader's running around supplying stuff. Anything to livin up the universe i'm in favor of. The bots should look unique though. Not just normal bots with some cleaning beam being shot out of them, but something different. Maybe very small and tons of them. Or a huge spider like npc! lol idk. More npc's are needed though. For any purposes.

How about having weapon (large slot) called "Cleaner Chassis". It would launch 5 or so bots to go and start to clean the OUTSIDE of the station. go do some mining... come back later... and what do you know, the station looks prestine and you can collect a decent profit. but watch out, bigger opponents have more bots, so keep up the good work and you could become janiter-king of the universe!!!!!

ok folks thanks for your ideas... a thought came to me of a basic basic cleaning system:

we can already target parts of the station. so give each part a 'dirtiness' level. and give people a 'basic cleaning beam'. and a 'cleaning mission'. when they clean, the 'dirtiness level' goes down. their ship is filled with crates of 'waste' or 'scrap'. the mission will tell them a destination sector or station to take the material. the reward is money, commerce xp, and faction.

in terms of gameplay, the 'dirtiness' is like 'temperature' on asteroids. when someone mines, temp goes up, making it impossible to mine more. when someone cleans, the dirtiness goes down, making it impossible to clean more.

lol... ananzi.. you're either serious, and out of your mind :). Or the most brilliant political philosopher of our time.

ooh ooh even simpler. For the basic mission, you dont have to take waste to a diff station. You just have to grab a cleaning beam, accept mission, clean some of the station, and redock. You get no trade xp for this. Just money and faction.

A stations 'dirtiness' will be partly influenced by how many people come in and out, both NPCs and players.

Thanks for your kind words, but this idea is a team effort!

I saw where this started but heck its starting to sound plausable :o

Ah whatever, they should add it in anyways

Good way to gain standing :)

How about a trade mission that says "Look, we have 200CU of crap lying around. We don't want it. Just take it to an empty sector and dump it."

And a janitor mission that tells you to pick it up again. >.>

even better, if you bring the "cleaned material" from the station and try to sell it back to the station it is a -2 and you lose money, but if you go and dump it in an empty sector, it won't make you lose money, but if you just dump it in the same space you get NONE of the bonuses.

i like this idea alot
