Illigal Narcotics

Dec 31, 2004 ArAsH link
How about some illigal narcotics in the game. Would be a great way to build some kind of imperium. Specially after the exploration add-on. I can allready imagine people venturing to my uncharted space to get supplied in my private cap-ship, so that they can distribute in their own home systems ;)

I'm sure that will not be helpful to Vendetta's "Teen" rating.

well, it doesnt have to work quite like that FM. :)

one of the cool things about the old Elite games was the illegal substances. They were cargo that you could buy only in certain places, and they were illegal to sell or even posess in most of the universe. They were however EXTREMELY profitable if you got away with it. If you didnt, well, your reputation took a significant hit. :)

Weren't cigarettes contraband in the original Privateer? Anyway, I know the thread title is "Illegal Narcotics" but as Spellcast said contraband doesn't have to be drugs or slaves or anything like that. Data smuggling is a good example (and one around which a thousand mission stories could be built). Also shuttling VIPs, spies, and criminals who would rather go unnoticed.

"I'm sure that will not be helpful to Vendetta's "Teen" rating."

yea, you prolly right. Didn't realy stand still at the ratings here, because the average player in here now is around 27 -28, but this can change pretty quick in the future.
Guess i just wanted to play scarface in space ;-)

Btw, Happy Newyear everybody :)

I kinda like this Idea, it adds a whole new dimension to piracy. I mean, one could even have a crime syndicate (mafia, basically). And then there could be police and bounty hunters to attack the crime syndicates. It would add a lot of role-playing.

BTW no need for drugs, there are a lot of other potentially illegal materials (Classified Government Data, Classified Prototype Equipment, etc.)

BTOW ESRB gave us a loophole, namely the "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" clause.

"BTOW ESRB gave us a loophole, namely the "Game Experience May Change During Online Play" clause."

That was great. The whole game is played online. lol

I would like to see some Illigal items to sell none the less.

Yea, doesn't necessarily have to be drugs.

It can be weapons (guns, explosives, ammunition, weapon components, biotoxins, etc), prohibited chemicals (asbestos, DDT, etc), information in various forms (the ubiquitous datapad), state criminals, political refugees, even animals (Gray African Parrots, ferrets, fruitflies, etc).

Types of things that are extremely profitable per run, but if you're caught, you take an unbelieveably major standing hit (admired people get dropped to -200, respected to -400, neutral to -600, hated to -1000). You have to keep from being scanned by station guards (they try to close to 200m and scan you), and if they do, they discover your cargo and you're in deep crap.

just a semi-offtopic note, you cant get lower than -1000

or why not just make some current items to become illegal in curtain areas.... But.. How is it going to negatively affect you if your caught? Are players able to take the "law" into there own hands and eliminate the other players with these items and gain lvl points? are you going to have to do a mission to carry them? or is it going to be a trading mission of your own... ?

ahh yes the glamor of drugs.

heroin junkies passed out on the sofa with a needle in their arm, the house strewn with 3 weeks of garbage, the stove covered in slime from canned food splatter, the toilet that has been stopped up for 4 days and has flies landing on standing logs of shit, while a 3 year old child with no clothes on screams for food in the next room.

definitely we need this in vendetta.

the way Ananzi portrayed it, this would work very nicely with that janitor idea someone suggested a few days ago.

I agree we need some sort of illegal cargo. Not necessarily drugs.
I really liked the previous comment for illegal weapons and such.

"But.. How is it going to negatively affect you if your caught? Are players able to take the "law" into there own hands... ?"

Oh crap, with this there is now gonna have to be another skill tree: law enforcer.

erm.....

drugs sound good though. It something common that everyone knows is illeagal. It doesnt have to be modern drugs though. Make some up! new things that take the universe to a trippy level. Or ya just go with the weapons smuggeling.

GO JANITORS GO!
