[Elite 500 Kill Scout ship]

Basic ship: Mark I

Cargo capacity: 1
Weapons: 0
Electronics port: 2 (when implemented)
Mass: 2000kg
Length: 9m
Thrust: 240
Max Speed: 85
Spin Torque: 7.5
Turbo Max Speed: 275

That's my version tell me if it's too good or not good enough :)

I would give it "1" cargo slot, for datapads or something small. Everyting should have at least 1 cargo slot.

k,
1's not gonna do anything tho.

I think 4200 armor is a bit too much. it should go down in 1-2 blasts. I'd say 2100 armor makes more sense.

Other than that, seems pretty nice. I'd prefer it 285-290 m/s, but eh, I'm not picky.

Just because sometimes I'm way to picky, I wouldn't call it a scout ships, how bout "Intercepter"? Reason being, scouts typically do not fight, and are very fast and used for recon. This ships is to reward though who have perservered though 500 player kills not 500 recon missions. =)

If we gave the elite and elite fighting ship.... who else could stop them besides another elite? But yes I see your point.

"shape"
Ok I lowered the armor to 3,700. I would like to see the scout ship take at least 2 hits to be destroyed (1 hit gives you time to react). So since the charged cannon does 3400 damage I set it too 3700 hit points.

MAKE IT DEVS MAKE IT! Ok here's a question to a developer.. (i kno i kno it's in vain) How long does it take to make a ship?

I believe they have said that for each new model it takes about 1 man-month to do the renders and such kix.
Jan 14, 2005 Shapenaji link
the thing is, if you hit a scout once, you'll never hit it again... it's sorta supposed to be like an observer :) If they ever actually manage to pull off a shot, the thing is toast

Everyone desearves a second chance shape :)

Spellcast says:

So, what, 150+ hours to make what looks like a medium-count polygon model and change some databases in ship-buying routines? That's pathetic. There MUST be something else that would make the process of making a new ship take so long.

If the Devs need help in the design and 3-D modeling arena, I gladly offer my services.

well, the skin has to be modeled to match the collison mesh perfectly, or hits/collisions dont work right, I imagine there's some other stuff involved as well. and actually they want new, high-count polygon models. the ones we have are 2+ years old after all.

Well maybe they could give us instructions on ways to create one (what programs to buy and what not) and have player submitted ships every set intervals of time (1 month mayhaps). Course they would control the stats but why not?

Devs.... why won't this work?

P.S. Kixkizzle made this post not [Anevitt]

Hi, I just wanted to post to say I read this, and we'll have to look at the various Accomplishments and the rewards they give. Waylon's spent some time trying to make interesting accomplishments, but I don't think he really spent a lot of time on the rewards, and it all needs to be brought in line with an overall perspective most likely.

Regarding user-submitted ships, the issue is mostly keeping things up to the level of quality that we want. When I say a man-month, I'm not talking about say.. the Atlas (sadly, the last remaining ship design of mine in the game.. and it's very old). I'm talking about something like the Marauder, which has umpteen levels of hand-tweaked LOD, normal maps, bump maps, specially-design custom pixel shaders, plus testing of fallbacks for equipment that isn't shader compatible to make sure the ship still looks as cool as possible on older hardware.. blah blah. Modeling the ship probably took Waylon about a week. Texturing it and making it all look right probably took him about four more weeks.

On the other hand, a relatively "low-tech" design like the Hive Queen only took him two days to make, start to finish, model and texture. But that ship uses no shaders whatsoever. So, it really depends on the level of technology we want to utilize, and the quality of content we're aiming for. 90% of people might say that the Hive Queen looks almost as cool as the Marauder.. but the Marauder does look a lot more interesting on higher-end videocards. Not that you necessarily notice this detail in the smaller ships.. but it will definitely become more of a requirement in the larger ones.

Anyway, if people want to model and texture ships and submit them to us, they're welcome to do so. Know that A) we may not accept your work, although we appreciate the efforts, and B) if we do accept it we will require you to sign over all intellectual property rights to us. The latter is just a requirement of doing business in this day and age, especially if one has any hope of getting an outside investment, or selling the game in other regions. We would, of course, be happy to credit people who contributed.

Ok, this post is now about 10 times longer than I meant it to be, and I need to go to bed. We'll re-assess the Accomplishment rewards, I promise.

So what happened to all of our submissions from the ship contest? Eh?
Jan 16, 2005 Spellcast link
hmmmmmm,

Ya know incarnate, I have a suggestion then.

Why not make half a dozen or so new ship models as low detail, "hive queen" quality renders to start with. get a little more variety into the game. Then anytime waylon has free time (free time, whats that? ok budget him about 3 to 5 hours a week) to slowly update them and increase the quality incrementally. I personally dont play for the graphics, and seeing more variety of ships would be cool.

Then again spellcast that's probably what their doing. I mean in somewhere around 4ish months they are gona come out with cap ships right? So maybe that's what their working on at the moment.

(but c'mon.... the scout can be low res!)
