ship computer

consider consolidating all inflight command/control functions within a 'ships control panel' or 'ships computer' type of interface. could help reduce confusion about all the different available commands.

It would be kinda neat to see a kind of dashboard interface that has some screens you can see, like the nav computer and the sector list. maybe even the console, all at once. In the long run i'd also like to see a ship specific cockpit design.

At one point the idea was to have a modular HUD that would allow you to customize your HUD. I don't know if the devs are still planning on going that route, but I haven't heard anything different from them since.

FM: that'd ROCK.

It'd also be cool to change color schemes (via RGB controllers) for each of the major colors on the HUD. For instance, I might prefer my HUD to have a mixture of reds and oranges, but other people might prefer to keep the original blues and greens.

'modular HUD' is in the 'read this before you post' thing. Im talking about organizing the commands and information, in one central place. we already have a 'mission computer'. The nav map is sort of a computer. But everything else is just kinda ... 'what was that command again'?

Maybe have something like the station interface.. but for in flight. Full screen. A computer within the ship. Buttons on the side. One button brings up a page of cargo information, with jettison buttons, another page has current weapons/equipment information, a third has current ship stats (thrust, mass, maybe damage report), another page has the navigation interface, another page has a slash-command list... another has keybindings... another has mission information.... another has communications..... and at the bottom a little scrollable text console like we have now.

Each page would have its own keybinding which will pull it up automatically from inflight, as happens now (j for cargo, n for navmap, k for character info, f1 for keybinds, etc)... as well.

oh well so much for 'simple changes'. i think this is kinda pie in the sky.

Please don't forget that this is a twitch-based game. The more time it takes a user to navigate to a task like setting a course, the more time they're floating in space undefended, and the more likely they are to find themselves blown to bits.

this is true. but honestly, i don't think you would be using this unless you where sure you were in a safer area, but i would like to see this in, but the other menu's should not be changed. (unless you want them to be)
