For bombers

Jan 25, 2005 UncleDave link
If an actual mobile capital ship is to be added, bombers need at least one type of contact-only high-speed powerful rocket...

Like the avalon (although this should make a return, since station nuking will lead to rapid strikeforceness), only the kind that won't annihilate friendly ships at the same time, just pack a concentrated punch.

Magazine of 8, 4000 damage, 100 m/s, contact-only. :P

well they could just add like a large version of the plasdev - hopefully this is going to be mounted on largish bombers which will (when they sort batteries out) have the energy supply to cope.
But yeah anti-cap ship homing torpedoes would be cool - they home really weakly and are contact detonation only with quite small blasts, but do huge damage. They'd also be VERY slow, like 40m/s if that (but with fuel for like 2 minutes or something), so they could only be used on cap ships.

Energy weapons will be useless against a capital ship. If I remember correctly, 500m will be the range at which her turrets destroy you. And they -will- destroy you, no matter how good a pilot you are. If she's moving, that is.

hehe, unless the frig has some blind spots :D

Movement would reduce those blindspots significantly, as would a fighter escort. We need a heavy hitting long range weapon - the bus kills of the past will be nigh on impossible if the ship is moving and has even a single player fighter escort.

ooh come on what was even more newbfriendly then to see a frigate getting canned by a bus :D

but yeah your right, was just joking...

Anyway, I would like to see a contact missile with like a 7-8k damage, no big explosion. So should only affect the ship nothing else.

remembers the suicide nuke...

^ yeah thats pretty much what i meant by the torpedo thing i mentioned

Bah, it's not a nuke if it doesn't have a huge blast radius!

*cough*
Anywho, I think the Avalon was good as it was. Would you use a nuke in close-range combat? Ummm... no. Sure, there should be high-damage weapons with less of a blast radius (DoT "bots" that drill into the hull or something?), but nukes are nukes. The size of the blast radius is generally related to the amount of explosive (and hence the damage caused), no?

Avalon + big splash radius?

<Starfisher> HAHAHA DIE BOTS!

Congratulations on your new Heavy Weapons License!
Contratulations on your new Combat Piloting License!

<Starfisher> Yeah... hell yeah...

It would be an interesting way to clear bot sectors for miners if they ever put a bot respawn delay in.

I think the most bots I ever pwnd with an avalon was around eight. S14 was a great roid-farming sector.
Jan 25, 2005 Soulless1 link
and thats why we don't have huge blast nukes any more :P
Jan 25, 2005 Furious link
I wonder, could the bots prematurely detonate the nuke by shooting it? That might be an unpleasant surprise.

Or it could be like UT where shooting the Redeemer causes it to fizzle.

Well heck, I think it'd be cool for any missile or rocket to be fizzled if it's shot, but they hey.
