More defensive packages...

I'm sure there has been many other defensive related suggstions, (i.e. ECM vs. Missiles).
I would like to suggest having pods that take up weapons slot that shorten the range of lock-on's. To keep things balanced having a pod like this activated knocks all offensive weapons off line. With the exception of Mining Beams.

Another suggestion. Point Defense Weapons. Very short range and used to engage one target at a time for each weapon. I'm sure this won't be easy to implement in the game engine but it's worth mentioning.

Proximity*: 70m
Splash: 20m
Detonate: Contact (5m?)

Discourager-class Proximity mines modified to maintain a magnetic lock on any ship that passes nearby.

*Does not explode, but starts following your ship if you come within this distance.

Defense Shield (S)
Damage Absorption: 2000 (fully loaded)
Regeneration: 30/sec

Generates a virtual shield which absorbes any missiles, shots nd other damage activities to the ship. It consumes battery to regenerate and it needs a particular time to be recharged.
When ship is colliding with on object it "consumes" the energy of the collision.

Advanced Defense Shield (S)
Damage Absorption: 3000
Regeneration: 30/sec

Heavy Defense Shield (L)
Damage Absorption: 5000
Regeneration: 30/sec

Advanced Heavy Defense Shield (L)
Damage Absorption: 9000
regeneration: 25/sec
