Auto-Aim Penalties

Okay I normally have this off but I used it against an Apu-tech and things were way to easy.

Now I know the point is to assist players in combat but the gains from killing should be lessened using it. Cut the benefits in half or even into a quarter since that is the amount of time cut down from fights (it varies from bot to bot). Also make the gains from the combat missions count lesser when using it in a fight too to prevent abuse of this.

It is nice to have but it changes things way to much. If it can be used in PVP (I am not sure yet since I havent gone into PVP yet) then it needs to be removed when attacking players. This way it is more skill for a win and not the effect of a game feature.

I do not know if there are others that agree but I feel that this is a valid point.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Auto-aim does not aim FOR you. If you think it's too easy, go fight a Valent Assault instead of the lowest-level combat bot in the game.

most players turn the auto-aim OFF for PvP because its actually a detriment in most cases.

its actually pretty much misnamed, because its more of a predictor than an auto-aim. each gun has an arc that it can fire in, and if you get the predictor into the arc the gun can track the target a bit.

I actually have my mouse wheel set to autoaim toggle. I find that both on and off are very useful in PvP.

Sometimes you need a little more leeway in your aiming (cuz you're dodgin like a madman, close range mostly)

other times you want to know exactly where your shots are going, e.g. a stream that a roller will pass through ( if you have autoaim on and try to do it, they will start to roll into the stream, and then the aimer will track to the player until they're out of the stream)

EDIT: also, there are distinct problems with autoaim, which is why combat movement binds are so prevalent. It does not take away from the skill of combat... unless you use AGT maybe...)

Autoaim is a time-linear tracker. I.e. it predicts where you need to fire your shots (which is fired at a constant velocity, a linear time variable) to where the target's linear tracjectory would be.

The operative word is "linear", so any acceleration vector of the target will throw it off, as acceleration is non-linear in time. That's why any rolling (centripetal acceleration), sudden change of velocity vector etc will throw it off.

Now if I can just translate my stupendous knowledge of physics into more PKs.

And Shape, please don't get me started about the AGT =P.

AGT misses just as much as any other weapon. The reason it works is people make mistakes, and the AGT doesn't let people have time for mistakes. On the other hand, if you actually cause the other person to make mistakes....

On the topic of the GT. Its actually possible to be accurate with it and not just spew charges around everywhere.

*waves to Alamar*

For that matter, I think everyone who use those pesky neutrons and spew them around themselves without hitting much should be penalized as well. Right, Solra? *grins*
